About the Position:
The National Events Manager is responsible for providing oversight and project management of multiple National Championship properties, enhancing and improving members’ experiences at National Championships, and establishing positive relationships with communities around the country. This includes providing exceptional management, relationship and team building skills, customer service to members and non-members, and administrative strength across multiple projects. 
 
The National Events Manager serves as the leader of Local Organizing Committees, event crews, event vendors and city and venue departments and agencies. A strong ability to remain positive in the face of challenges, nimble while troubleshooting, and patient with passionate internal and external customers with the skill to see the big picture and manage the details is essential to success. 
 
Experience managing bicycle races is key for this position to hit the ground running with a 21 National Championship schedule in 2023.
 
This position reports to the Director of National Events and works closely with the marketing, communications, event services, and partnership teams.
 
Core Responsibilities:
  • Oversight of multiple USA Cycling National Championships as directed by the Director of National Events.
  • Manage a working budget for selected National Championship Events.
  • Various administration duties for selected National Championship events inclusive of equipment and supply ordering, travel logistics, agency meetings, etc.
  • Responsible for all planning and onsite day-to-day operations as Race Director of National Championships as decided by the Director of National Events to include working with the Membership Department to ensure they are properly permitted. 
  • Execute the USA Cycling National Championships setup to ensure that it adheres to USAC brand and safety standards. 
  • Manage third party vendors for National Championships such as timing, announcers, fencing, etc.
  • Provide customer service in response to membership questions and concerns for National Championship events.
  • Work closely with membership departments on registration processes for National Championships. 
  • Serve as a resource for members in coordination with National Championships.
  • Work to ensure National Championship Events are aligned with industry standards. 
  • Serve as support staff at various National Championships. 
  • Collaborate with Communication Department on press releases, race information, etc. for the National Events Department.
  • Maintain all aspects of USA Cycling’s website related to selected National Championship events. 
  • Conduct site visits prior to selected National Championships.
  • Ensure proper coordination on anti-doping for select events with local organizing committees and USADA.
  • Remain current on all USA Cycling issues, i.e., membership and events.

Requirements:
  • Generally requires 3+ years of cycling race management experience
  • Industry experience within the sport of cycling 
  • Must be comfortable working in an office environment during regular business hours between events
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, with the ability to navigate high-stress situations and keep composure
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and to succeed under pressure 
  • Work independently while maintaining strong communication/collaboration internally and within the cycling community
  • A continuous learner with a proven track record of innovation and creativity
  • Ability to think critically about prioritization decisions and make smart trade-offs
  • Advanced verbal and written communication and editing skills
  • Power to build positive, professional relationships within internal teams and the cycling community
  • Willingness to work non-traditional work hours including weekends and some holidays

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by potential candidates to successfully perform the essential functions of the role. 

  • Ability to attend in-person cycling events, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time.
  • Positioned in front of a computer screen for extended periods of time.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional standing, squatting, reaching and bending.
  • Ability to receive information through oral communication both in-person, over video conferencing platforms, and on the telephone.
  • Manual dexterity needed for using computer keyboard.
  • Must have adequate vision to operate computer and complete paperwork and long and short distance capabilities at events.
  • Ability to work in conditions with occasional exposure to extreme weather such as high and low temperatures and variable precipitation when working at events.
  • Frequently communicate with staff and participants and must be able to exchange accurate information in event situations.
  • Dolly and lift-assist equipment. Incumbent may occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs.

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Web-based software applications (Zendesk, Shopify, Braintree, Certify, Adaptive, BikeReg)
  • Website content management software
  • Slack

Travel:
This position requires domestic travel of approximately 30-40% of the year.

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time, non-exempt, hybrid position based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The base salary range for the position is $50,000-55,000 annually with an opportunity for a performance bonus.
