Position Summary  
The Director of Product is responsible for the vision and strategy for how we attract new readers to Sports Business Journal, activate them as engaged users, convert them to paying subscribers, and retain them over time. This position is responsible for developing insights into the behaviors and needs of SBJ’s users and translating those insights into strategies and features that will help grow our audience and improve the content and product. 
The Director of Product will focus on optimizing the website and service to achieve business goals while working in a Lean Agile environment at the intersection of business technology and user experience.  
Essential Duties & Responsibilities 
  • Research, analyze, and learn about the SBJ clients and segmentation to develop a deep understanding of the audience and subscriber base and their needs. 
  • Analyze the market and competitive environment from a technical perspective to identify business problems that represent key market opportunities which also align with SBJ’s strategic and business goals.  Translate analyses into sound recommendations based on data and experience. 
  • Understand the product and service offerings in detail, including the functionality and technology context and respond to inquiries from sales, customers, prospects, and other stakeholders. Work with marketing and sales to document and communicate new features and product offerings to the organization’s personnel and to customers. 
  • Lead a high performing team of market research analysts across SEO, user activation, subscriber conversion, and payments to execute that product vision 
  • Participate in tier 1 customer meetings with Account Managers, Revenue, Editors and Development resources to understand key challenges and help identify solutions that benefit all parties. 
  • Collaborate with sales, editorial, customers, prospects, sports business subject matter experts, engineering, and business analysts to align on strategy and develop a delivery roadmap that supports business goals. Collaborate and engage key stakeholders in the planning and execution of projects. 
  • Work with marketing, strategic partnerships on promotional activities related to new or existing product offerings. 
  • Create and track product metrics to inform strategy and roadmap, sharing analysis with partners. 
  • Coordinate, prepare and deliver presentations and product demonstrations explaining products or services to internal stakeholders, customers and prospective customers.  
  • Ensure all Product Management Lifecycle process & procedures are followed and ensure action items and deadlines are met 
  • Travel 20% to Customer and Industry Events 
 Required Qualifications  
   Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, design, or technology field; or related field or equivalent combination of education and professional experience 
   10+ years of product, analysis, technology and tactical daily execution to increase audience and subscriber growth. 
   10+ years leading cross-functional teams at a media organization 
   Proven ability to use data analytics, research and testing methodologies to drive business decisions, diagnose problems, and recommend action plans to resolve issues 
   Comfortable using development, requirements, test, and project management software such as Microsoft’s Azure Dev Ops, Aha!, Confluence, or Postman 
   Fundamental understanding of User Experience (Design) and User Interface (Development) practices – able to contibute in wire framing and rapid prototyping 
   Comfortable acting as the Voice of the Customer internally as well as with speaking to customers externally 
Preferred Qualifications 
•            Pragmatic Marketing certified or proven track record of PM concepts applied
