Position Description 
As a critical member of the Federation, the Major Gifts Officer (MGO) is charged with generating significant philanthropic support in the assigned region.  The individual will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting prospects and donors, and participating in donor stewardship activities. The MGO will manage a portfolio of donors and prospects capable of making meaningful contributions (ranging from $5,000 to $200,000) to U.S. Soccer, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. 
Primary Responsibilities 
  • In consultation with the Director of Major Gifts, establish an annual operating plan, with measurable performance objectives, that is linked to U.S. Soccer’s larger fundraising goals
  • Successfully manage a portfolio of 150 major gift donors and prospective donors to meet philanthropic goals for the region 
  • Create and execute individualized donor action plans with a focus on maximizing potential gifts over the long-term
  • Identify and cultivate prospective donors via in-person visits, video meetings, telephone calls, email communication, and engagement opportunities
  • Utilize the CRM system Salesforce to track activity, run reports, and increase efficiency 
  • Host special events (fundraisers and cultivation events)
  • Steward donors through communications, events, and experiences 
  • Serve as the key fundraising contact for the region; coordinate and implement special projects as assigned
  • Additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • At least four years years of fundraising experience, with at least least two years of experience cultivating and successfully managing a portfolio of at least 100 donors, soliciting major gifts of at least five figures, and demonstrating year-over-year growth 
  • Demonstrated experience in prospect identification, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Experience tracking donor movements in a CRM system (experience with Salesforce a plus)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft product suite, including presentation development
  • Demonstrated work ethic as a self-starter 
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously
  • Superior interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills 
  • Able and willing to travel up to 10% of the year
  • Able and willing to work non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends as needed

  • CFRE Certification 
  • Passion for the sport of soccer, and able to have authentic conversations about the U.S. National Teams, domestic and international leagues, and current and former players
