Position Description:
Reporting into the Chief Legal Officer, the Director of Security researches, develops and implements plans to secure athletes, fans, Board of Directors, staff, property, and technology in all of our facilities and at domestic and international programming and events. The Director, Security is responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, and maintaining all safety and security standards, processes, practices, and policies to reduce risk, respond to incidents, and limit exposure and liability in all areas.  
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement and manage information, policies and procedures to ensure protection of athletes (21 national teams), staff (including Board of Directors), and fans at U.S. Soccer events and programs including:   
  • Identifying risks and developing security plans in partnership with event and other staff 
  • Creating a crisis management plan in partnership with event and other staff 
  • Conducting security assessments at locations and venues
  • Monitoring master calendar of all team activity
  • Coordinating and implementing on-site policies and procedures with facility owners,  operators and designated security personnel 
  • Integrating with applicable law enforcement agencies (local, federal, international, private sector) on creation and execution of plans  
  • Researching and creating worldwide threat assessments and security information for specific countries in coordination with the U.S. State Department and other security information sources
  • Conducting security briefings with relevant team and/or staff 
  • Developing and facilitating training for relevant team and/or staff 
  • Design, teach and manage policies and procedures for a pool of consultants responsible for (1) ensuring security at programming and events and (2) preparing and filing reports detailing safety and security incidents at programming and events 
  • Direct, coordinate and administer security plans for all U.S. Soccer facilities including:
  • Designing and implementing policies and procedures for athletes, staff, visitors and property
  • Managing appropriate responses to contingencies and emergencies (e.g., medical emergencies, fire, tornado and natural disasters)
  • Serve as liaison between U.S. Soccer and relevant law enforcement agencies by:
  • Cultivating relationships with local, state, federal and international law enforcement and national security agencies
  • Triaging any incidents involving athletes, staff or criminal acts against U.S. Soccer or U.S. Soccer facilities  
  • Identify and manage internal and external threats to technology security in partnership with IT department 
  • Continuously research, develop and implement innovative security management techniques and technology solutions 
  • Prepare, align on, and manage security budget 
  • Execute all duties on a timely basis with a high degree of professionalism
  • Perform other duties as assigned 
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Extensive experience with security and special event planning, threat assessment and risk analysis, high profile protection, and crowd control and management
  • Proven success identifying issues, defining solutions and implementing effective plans in a timely manner
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed to be available to respond to threats and emergencies promptly 
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally (at least 50%) 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with management, staff, contractors, partners and the public
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with local, national, federal and international law enforcement and security agencies 
  • Familiarity with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Comment System (ICS)

Desired Qualifications:
  • International work experience
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize and manage a number of different projects simultaneously
  • Experience in law enforcement
  • Self-starter with focus on clear communication and understanding.
  • Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills 
  • Proven successful supervisory and staff leadership experience 
  • Proven experience operating computers, especially Microsoft applications (e.g., Excel) 
  • Experience in budget planning and preparation
