Overview

The Athletic Development Coach, a sport-specific strength and conditioning coach, is responsible for prescribing, executing, and recording strength and conditioning sessions for the San Antonio Spurs players, with especial emphasis on the development and re-training of on-court athletic capabilities.

Responsibilities

  1. Prescription (based on medical and performance needs), execution, and recording of strength and conditioning sessions (including warm-ups) for the San Antonio Spurs players.
  2. Prescription (based on medical and performance needs), execution, and recording of basketball-specific sessions as part of the transition from generic to sport-specific movement patterns.
  3. Proactive implementation of the stablished athletic performance monitoring processes (e.g., wellness questionnaires, body composition, player tracking, strength profiling, movement efficiency, etc.).
  4. Supervising and educating performance staff on strategies to assess and enhance movement proficiency (e.g., running, cutting, jumping, landing, etc.).
  5. Assisting with any logistics related to the athletic performance program (e.g., supplements, equipment, food, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS).
  • Masters and/or PhD in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or Biomechanics.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in elite/professional high-performance sport, ideally as part of a collaborative department around the team.
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to professionally handle sensitive and confidential situations and information.
  • Collaborative and team-first mindset.
  • Must be able to travel extensively and be available for a high volume of nontraditional work hours.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk for long periods of time and to lift, push, and pull 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Nice to have: basketball coaching or playing experience.
