Accounting and Finance: Controller/Director of Finance
Overall Job Purpose
Are you comfortable with numbers? Know a thing or two about leading a team and running organizational finances? If that's the case, then come be our new Vice President, Controller! In this role you will be planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions for our NBA property, the New Orleans Pelicans. This position will lead all aspects of daily cash operations and cash projections, prepare and balance monthly financial documents, and handle all accounting functions of the Pelicans, including accounts payable and accounts receivable. You will report directly to the Senior Vice President/CFO. 

Primary Responsibilities
  • Ensure that appropriate accounting control procedures are in place
  • Cash Operations/Projections – Review cash daily and provide cash projections for business/cash needs
  • Process wires/ACH payments, and provide support to CFO for approval
  • Compile and analyze financial information used to prepare monthly cash and general journal entries
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and package for Management review for making decisions for the Team
  • Collaborate with the NBA League office for Combined Financial Documents (CFS) projections, gameday gate reporting, and Basketball Related Income (BRI) testing by the Players Association
  • Partner with Human Resources to ensure accurate and timely payment and reporting of player and staff compensation
  • Prepare and coordinate the Team’s year-end audit.
  • Prepare the BRI/CFS NBA packages and lead all aspects of the BRI and CFS audits.
  • Balance the reconciliation process for Corporate Sponsorship’s sponsor elements system (CRM) to ensure its accuracy with the ticketing system (SRO) for ticket/sponsorship revenue reporting
  • Work closely with Business Intelligence for ticketing and sponsorship revenues’ reporting accuracy
  • Responsible for quarterly reporting of debt compliance to bank
  • Liaise with Tax professionals on a quarterly basis for filing taxes on behalf of the Team
  • Work with insurance carrier for processing and managing premiums and completing questionnaires on time
  • Review accounts payable checks weekly and work with AP Staff Accountant for questions/research
  • Account Reconciliations- Oversee accounting department in preparing monthly account reconciliations timely and accurately. Prepare year-end account reconciliations of all Asset/Liability accounts, including all streams of revenue and main expense sources.
  • Accounts Receivable – Responsible for the timely posting of customer payments from sponsorship, suites, season and ticket plans, group sales, and other miscellaneous receivables.
  • Manage the budget process and submit budget reports monthly to Department Heads.
  • Responsible for hiring, training and retaining skilled accounting staff.
  • Other projects as deemed necessary.

Requirements
  • College degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA and MBA preferred
  • 7+ years of management experience preferred
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks and work efficiently at all times
  • Can work at a fast pace and under pressure in meeting strict internal and NBA deadlines
  • Ability to change or adapt work practices, priorities, or procedures, or to reschedule activities in response to changing conditions or multiple work demands
  • Strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and FASB principles
