Who are we hiring?
The Director Social Media - Knicks is responsible for establishing and executing the overall strategy, editorial calendar and promotional plans across all social channels for the entire Knicks ecosystem, inclusive of the New York Knicks, Westchester Knicks, Knicks Gaming, and Jr. Knicks. This role will drive day-to-day implementation of content, including game/team coverage, partner content platforms, youth and community initiatives, audience and international growth tactics, and brand/marketing messaging. This role will directly collaborate with business leads across content, marketing strategy, marketing partnerships, creative, PR/communications, basketball operations, social impact on day-to-day business initiatives and revenue opportunities.

What will you do?
  • Set, manage and execute the Knicks season long social, digital and editorial execution across the full ecosystem of current properties (NYK, WCK, KNX, Jr. Knicks) and platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube, Tik Tok, and Weibo, Oversight of day to day operations for flawless execution of all assets (10,000+) across the season.
  • Drive brand positioning and narrative across all platforms. Includes delivery of social playbook to establish overall social voice and brand behavior along with content execution for storytelling 
  • Work with content team to set KPIs, strategy and ongoing recommendations for audience growth and fan engagement across existing and new platforms.
  • Collaborate with Sr. Director, Social Media, Sr. Director, Marketing Strategy, and others to identify and create revenue enhancing content across partnerships, ticketing, merchandise and community efforts. 
  • Identify and brief content needs and inspire creative innovation across social features, videos, graphics, interviews, graphics, photography. Design for multi-channel content use across all Knicks channels (web, app, MSG Networks), with a focus on social.
  • Work with analytic team on monthly and weekly digital reporting across social media teams to analyze data to create strategies and tactics for continual audience engagement and growth.
  • Serves in a leadership role, as manager of 5 direct reports and business owner working across departments in highly matrixed organization. Key lead with NBA (league and teams) on social/digital opportunities, best practices, communications, programs and policies
  • Quarterback the live coverage of all Knicks games, practices and events related to the business across 82 games, full practice schedule and season-long events calendar (50+).

What do you need to succeed?
  • 8 - 10+ years’ experience in social media, with majority of time spent in sports industry willing to roll up their sleeves in all aspects of the business.
  • Experience working in team or league environment is strongly preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally to navigate and prioritize in very sensitive, high paced environments 
  • A deep understanding of full 360 marketing functions with proven ability to translate digital initiatives across department
  • Expert in social media and digital content. Full proficiency in social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tik Tok, Weibo, YouTube and emerging platforms.
  • Knowledge of basketball/NBA and the Knicks team, including performance and stats, industry trends, basketball culture and fan engagement with the league and its athletes
  • A creative problem solver and innovator who is not just repeating what’s been done, but interested in helping to build what is next.
  • Ability to lead workstreams from inception to execution. Willing and able to dig into execution as much as strategy and deliver executions with quality and speed. 
  • Passion, ambition, resilience and work ethic to sustain unwavering performance across 82 game-season and 50+ events requiring always-on attention and accessibility, non-traditional work hours and occasional travel. Weekend work and game attendance is required to support game and player schedules. 
  • The ideal candidate will obsess over audience insights, performance metrics and data-driven decision making to help drive creative optimizations to deliver business results.

SUPERVISION:  Oversees social team of 5 people

  • Hands-on support across 82-game schedule, NBA and Knicks events (50+) 
  • Travel will be required 10%-15% of the time
