Position: Manager of Grounds – Player Development Complex

JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Head of Grounds, this role is responsible for leading the day to day field operations and grounds crew at the Player Development Complex and provide support at the Dunedin Stadium.  He/she will assist the Head of Grounds in developing and activating a 12-month maintenance schedule for the Player Development Complex and Stadium.  This role will be responsible for providing high performing fields and a safe environment for our players to perform baseball training and activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and mentor the team by providing our grounds with optimal staffing coverage
  • Manage the grounds crew staff, daily setup and maintenance of the Dunedin Complex fields, landscaping and auxiliary baseball space to ensure it meets or exceeds Major League Baseball’s rules and recommendations
  • Operate equipment and train staff on how to properly use equipment
  • Purchase and monitor inventory of materials
  • Work with Head of Grounds to develop and facilitate the overall maintenance and chemical plans for both the Stadium and Complex
  • Apply pesticides and fertilizers
  • Identify turf stresses and diseases and develop a plan to resolve
  • Communicate with Baseball Operations staff and coaches to identify daily and weekly scheduling
  • Assist in developing department budget and manage spending within these budgets
  • Develop new standard operating procedures while collaborating with multiple departments within the organization

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 4 years of sports turf experience
  • Minimum 2 years of people management experience
  • Turf management education is preferred
  • General technical and mechanical skills related to operating turf equipment
  • Florida Pesticide License
  • OSHA certification
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management skills, and the ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated success working in a team environment
  • Available to work holidays, weekends and evenings as required
  • Able to safely lift up to 50 pounds
  • Able to safely work outside in hot and wet conditions
  • Valid driver’s license
