Facility Operations/Event Staff: Grounds Crew/Turf Management
Essential Job Functions:
  • Engage in the management of all turf operations on a daily basis, including maintaining and handling all college sport’s field related physical duties to protect and manage turf and dirt surfaces.
  • Run the effective, detailed and proactive maintenance of the playing surfaces, surrounding turf areas, and the common grounds, including but not limited to, litter control, mowing and trimming, seeding, painting/striping field, fertilization and weed management, skinned-area preparation, pre-game setup and post-game closure of field for home games and other events, and set up and take down of equipment for team practice and drills.
  • Work closely with facility and athletic staff to manage and maintain turf and surfaces for practice.
  • Hire, manage and train all staff for the department.
  • Manage inventory of grounds materials including ordering and tracking material and usage.
  • Work with regional and local management to prepare budgets and operate under budgetary guidelines.
  • Make regular field inspections to ensure the quality and safety of the playing field and surrounding turf.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with coaches, umpires, officials, etc.
  • Ensure the safe and proper operation of all equipment utilized, maintaining that equipment in safe, clean, operable condition.
  • Willingly engage in proactive outside landscape maintenance of turf, shrubs, gravel, and irrigation.
 
Physical Demands & Working Environment:
  • Sitting, standing, walking, reaching with arms and hands, climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, or crouching are all part of this position.
  • Must be able to handle weather related elements such as rain and heat.
 
Experience:
  • Must have at least two to three years’ experience in sports turf groundskeeping in an assistant and or head role.
