Internship: Internship
The Kokomo Jackrabbits are a subsidiary of ROC Ventures and a member of the Northwoods League, the largest and most successful summer collegiate baseball league in the country. We are offering exciting internship opportunities to help launch your career. The social media internship include:

  • Help manage the team’s entire social media presence.
  • Cultivate fans on outlets like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and others.
  • Develop content for all social media outlets.
  • Help create promotions and campaigns to increase the team’s social media following.
  • Assist in other media and PR efforts, such as writing and website updates.
  • Learn from an award-winning industry veteran in a small, hands-on environment.
  • Join a staff with a history of sending grads to full-time jobs in the industry.

This is a great chance to get hands-on experience in the exploding field of social media in sports, while also making your mark on a young organization.

With social media’s explosive growth in today’s society, teams need to be proactive in managing their social media efforts. You will help manage the day-to-day activities for all of the team’s social media sites, from the existing Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts to potential endeavors on other outlets. Your role will be to work with our marketing agency to plan and post content in keeping with the organization’s message while cultivating our fan base online. You will develop compelling content and promotions to drive traffic, spawn “superfans” and team ambassadors, and ultimately bring more fans to the ballpark.

This is not your typical “go-fer” internship; you’ll have substantive responsibilities that will provide you valuable experience. Moreover, you won’t be simply taking orders; as a full-time member of the front office, you will participate in staff meetings and have a direct impact on how this team takes shape. You will not only be a part of a sports franchise, but you’ll get to put your stamp on it, too!

Unlike our other interns, your primary focus will be social media and public relations. Our operations interns rotate through a variety of roles during the season, and while you may also be a part of our ongoing outreach efforts, your responsibilities will be more focused. Therefore, this position is best suited for someone pursuing a career in sports social media and public relations. If you want to get a broader experience within a sports organization, or if you’re unsure about your future aspirations in sports, you may instead consider our operations internship. If your future is in social media, though, this gives you an excellent opportunity to get valuable experience.

Internship candidates should be interested in a career in sports and enthusiastic about the opportunity to join a vibrant organization. Prior experience in sports and/or social media is beneficial, but not necessary. You must be well-versed in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media platforms, and you should also be savvy enough to learn platforms with which you’re not already familiar. The position demands the ability to write well and under deadline, so writing samples will be requested. Applicants should be computer-savvy, with proficiencies in Microsoft Office software. Since you may also be asked to assist in other media or public relations activities, experience with website maintenance, graphic design, and Adobe Creative Suite programs are a plus. Creativity and the ability to think outside the box are also beneficial. You will be doing a good deal of individual work, but you must also be ready and willing to work as part of a team. Interns must be committed to working long hours including nights, weekends, and occasional holidays.

Interns will be expected to begin work by early to mid-May – starting early is encouraged, if possible – and work through the end of the season in mid-August, dependent on the team’s postseason play and the intern’s school schedule. All interns will receive a $100 per month, taxable stipend during their internship. Of course, you will gain substantial experience that will serve you throughout your professional career. Interns should receive credit for the internship or be directly supervised by a professor or advisor from their degree program.

Your cover letter should focus on why you believe you are a good fit for this organization. Your enthusiasm is appreciated, but no phone calls, please. Because of the volume of resumes that may be received, please be patient as we work to respond to all submissions.

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender identity, marital or veteran status, or any other protected class.
