Player Operations: Soccer - Coach
ABOUT THE CLUB
Flower City Union is a professional soccer club committed to positively impacting the City of Rochester and its surrounding communities by fielding a competitive, championship-caliber team in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) while supporting the development of youth soccer locally. The Club is committed to nurturing social and economic connections through inclusive business practices. It actively embraces diversity and aims to reflect back the faces and voices of the region.  The Club will play its inaugural season in 2022.
 
Flower City Union is seeking several Youth Coaches. They will be responsible for delivering on field coaching sessions, providing player feedback, attending educational meetings, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Soccer Development. 
 
The ideal candidate will be invested in the Club’s mission and open to non-traditional ideas and approaches. They will have the ability to work autonomously but will also know when to coordinate and consult with other constituents within the club. 
 
POSITION SUMMARY
Flower City Union is currently looking to add experienced coaches to the player development staff as Youth Coaches. The successful applicants will work within the year round Homegrown Partner Program. This position reports directly to the Director of Soccer Development. 
 
Roles and responsibilities include:
  • Delivering training sessions and focusing on the player’s holistic development, in line with the FCU curriculum and methodology.
  • Completion of all related administration tasks including but not limited to; session planning, player evaluations and feedback, and presentations.
  • Attendance at team meetings, to discuss pertinent player development issues and/or participate in education activities.
  • Working within the FCU Homegrown Partner Program providing support as needed for other local development initiatives. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Required to perform the job):
  • Required to be available various afternoons/evenings and weekends depending on position (see position descriptions below). 
  • Required to be available one (1) evening each week for staff training workshops and team meetings. Specific days & times may vary as a function of the overall schedule.
  • Weekly working hours will vary depending on season, position, and overall needs of the club (see details below). A coach’s working week is comprised of on field coaching hours, administration duties and attendance at mandatory staff training workshops. Both elements are paid at an hourly rate. 
  • Employment to begin during summer 2021.
  • Required to attend a mandatory paid pre-season orientation event.

QUALIFICATIONS, JOB KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITY:
  • Minimum of one USSF Grassroots license, USC National Diploma, or international equivalent.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years previous coaching experience, and at least one (1) within the US.
  • Bachelor’s degree in sports-related field preferred.
  • Candidates must hold a valid driving license and have their own vehicle for transportation.
  • Candidates must have a clean criminal record.
  • Additional certifications including but not limited to; goal keeping, futsal, sport science, athletic training, and nutrition preferred but not required. 
  • Certified First Aid/CPR/AED First Responder (must be obtained before start date)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred but not required.
 
SALARY
  • Compensation based on experience and qualifications

Employment Status  
Part-time team members work less than 30 hours per week, and may be assigned a work schedule in advance or may work on an as-needed basis. They’re not eligible for the benefits offered by Flower City Union, except as required by applicable law. 
 
Part-time employment types:
Full Availability 
  • Required to be available four (4) afternoons/evenings per week plus weekends for coaching. 
  • Required to be available one (1) evening each week for staff training workshops and team meetings.
  • Working hours will be approximately 10 to 29 hours per week, over a twelve month period. 
  • A coach’s working week is comprised of on field coaching hours, administration duties and attendance at mandatory staff training workshops. Both elements are paid at an hourly rate. 
  • Coaches who commit to a full availability employment contract receive preferential assignments to all programs. 
  • Required to attend a mandatory paid pre-season orientation event.
 
Partial Availability 
  • Required to be available for at least two (2) afternoons/evenings per week and some weekends. 
  • Required to be available one (1) evening each week for staff training workshops and team meetings.
  • Working hours will be approximately 2 to 12 hours per week, over a twelve month period. 
  • Coaching hours and other assignments are allocated based on required need and match up to availability. 
  • Coaching hours priority is given to full availability coaches.
  • Required to attend a mandatory paid pre-season orientation event. 
 
Junior Coach (Partial Availability) 
  • The Junior Coach position is for applicant’s ages 18-23 years of age and offers an entry level, part time opportunity, for aspiring young coaches to join the organization. 
  • Coaches are assigned miscellaneous hours throughout the year based on the Junior Coaches availability and needs of the club. 
  • Junior Coaches are not required to be available on any afternoons/evenings or weekends but are encouraged to keep their schedules flexible (particularly during the summer season) (paid at an hourly rate for on field coaching assistance and administrative work). 
  • Junior Coaches are not required to attend weekly education meetings but are encouraged to do so (unpaid). 
  • Junior Coaches are required to attend a mandatory paid pre-season orientation event.
