Facility Operations/Event Staff: Maintenance
Black Bear Sports Group is seeking an experienced facilities and equipment professional to oversee facilities and maintenance across the company’s portfolio of ice arena and recreation centers. The Director of Facilities will develop a 5-year capital improvement plan and oversee capital improvement budgets, develop and implement preventative maintenance for roof systems, refrigeration equipment, HVAC equipment and all other aspects of the arenas. The position is expected to travel to ice rinks to oversee large projects and ensure preventative maintenance and best practices are routinely completed. The ideal candidate is located in the Mid-Atlantic (I-95 corridor) within driving distance to Black Bear Sports Group's arenas in the metro Philadelphia and Northern New Jersey areas. The position will be expected to visit and audit all arenas on a regular basis. The Director of Facilities reports directly to Black Bear Sports Group.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with local arena managers to create and implement preventative maintenance programs and equipment best practices programs
  • Ensure equipment reporting logs and safety standards are met at each arena
  • Evaluate maintenance proposals and repair quotes as needed to ensure competitive pricing and quality of work
  • Negotiate and oversee third party maintenance contracts
  • Develop 5-year capital plans, oversee capital improvement budgets and projects on an annual basis
  • Coordinate bulk purchasing of equipment and supplies with key vendors
  • Investigate and assess energy efficiency projects 
  • Routinely visit ice rink locations to inspect equipment, reporting logs and conditions of the arenas 
  • Regional facilities managers and/or arena facilities managers 
 Education Requirements:
  • Minimum Level of Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree 
 Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements:
  • At least 15 years of ice rink and/or facilities/maintenance experience 
  • Prior experience with refrigeration equipment and asset management
  • Strong communications skills, particularly oral communication (ability to communicate by telephone).
  • Prior project management experience
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls late evenings and weekends as needed
  • Company car to be provided; ability to travel regionally to ice rink locations. Must have had a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver’s License for one year, and maintain throughout employment an insurable or a satisfactory driving record
  • May be required to work during weather emergencies
