Human Resources: Human Resources Management
Primary Purpose:
The Director of Human Resources directs and oversees the development, implementation, and coordination of policies and programs covering recruiting and talent acquisition, onboarding, employee relations, employee development and training, performance management, safety and health, payroll administration, benefits, and employee services.  The Director of Human Resources is a key member of the Company’s leadership team, with significant responsibility for assisting with operations and ensuring regulatory compliance. The Director of Human Resources develops, implements, and holds stakeholders accountable to human resources policies and practices that provide a balanced program throughout all departments of the organization.
Key  Responsibilities:
  •  Directs the interpretation and application of established human resources policies throughout the organization, including at the live auctions.
  • Maintains overall supervision of the organization’s recruitment, placement, and training programs and ensures compliance with federal, state, local, and industry-specific laws and regulations applicable to the Company’s employees.
  • Understands the unique industry (specialty automotive and automobilia live auctions) in which the business is engaged, and has developed or has the ability to develop a network of permanent and seasonal employees to assist with the Company’s operations.
  • Conducts a continuing study of HR policies, programs, and practices and legal requirements in the states in which the Company transacts business to keep the organization abreast of current practices and informed of new developments.
  • Ensures the Company’s HR policies are fair, current, comprehensive, and balanced, and ensures the Company’s compliance with applicable governmental laws and regulations such as the FLSA, FMLA, Title VII, the ADEA, the ADA, GINA, COBRA, the Arizona Civil Rights Act, Arizona wage payment laws, OSHA, and ERISA.
  • Administers compensation policies and structures, manages payroll, and ensures the proper recording and payment of overtime wages to eligible employees.
  • Investigates and helps to resolve employee relations issues to maintain positive working relationships and overall Company morale.
  • Oversees and administers scheduled and as-needed performance reviews and management, helping to incentivize high achievement and to develop plans, when needed, for performance improvement and implementation of disciplinary consequences. 
  • Directs the administration of group life and accident insurance, retirement programs, health and other related benefits programs and services, including working with outside consultants, and also  identifies competitive partners for the delivery of insurance products and assisting with employee enrollment.
  • Works closely with General Counsel on various employee and organizational issues, investigations, and compliance matters. 
  • Works with hotel partners to secure arrangements for employees working at live auctions.
  • Directs employment activities, including selection, promotion, and placement to ensure that qualified employees are recruited and hired for organizational positions.
  • Supervises new employee orientation and hiring functions, including in conjunction with the live auctions, and also analyzes exit interview data.
  • Coordinates with outside vendors to procure pre-employment, random, periodic, post-accident, and other permissible drug/alcohol testing of candidates and employees.
  • Obtains, reviews, and securely maintains documentation related to candidates’ eligibility to work (e.g., Forms I-9, e-Verify) and related to particular job duties (e.g., motor vehicle records, background checks).
  • Ensures secure  maintenance of employee records as required by applicable law.
  • Manages other human resources professionals, as needed.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Ability to coordinate high work volume and pressing time requirements.
  • Ability to make sound business decisions, with demonstrated ability to gather and analyze factual information necessary to formulate recommendations in diverse situations.
  • Effective time management, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient PC skills required.
  • Bachelor’s degree and strong academic credentials required. MBA or graduate work is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years human resources experience required.  Live event experience preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills required.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member, while using discretion in decision making and sound judgment in problem solving.
  • Ability to travel to and remain on-site during the Company’s live auctions and other marketing and special events from time to time.
