OVERVIEW: 
The Director of Corporate Development is responsible for leading the Museum’s effort to secure significant financial resources from corporations in support of The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis’ mission and strategic plan as it relates to corporate contributed income.  The director leads the museum’s corporate partnership and sponsorship program and achieves contributed revenue goals annually by developing and sustaining valuable relationships that have the potential to deliver corporate financial support.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Works closely with Vice President of Development and Corporate Partnership Officer to develop annual strategies that will achieve corporate development’s annual financial goals for annual operating, capital projects, special events and traveling exhibits. 
  2. Manages the museum’s relationship with official partners, community partners, and national traveling exhibit sponsors in collaboration with the Vice President of Development and in concert with museum colleagues.
  3. Achieves personal weekly, monthly and annual goals for moves management, maintaining a schedule that demonstrates a majority of time spent prospecting, building relationships, and meeting with prospective and current corporate museum donors.
  4. Analyzes specific targets for corporate contributed revenue matching museum projects and/or content to research analysis on corporation’s interest and propensity to give.  Creates a moves management plan for each identified target, including clear cultivation, solicitation and stewardship analysis for the prospective donor.
  5. Works closely with department colleagues to identify, research, cultivate, solicit, and secure gifts from corporate foundations.
  6. Partners with key museum staff to develop strategies that successfully position the museum's exhibitions, projects and programs with corporate giving, marketing and sponsorship opportunities.
  7. Manages a strong corporate partnership program that achieves best practices in securing sponsorship and/or donor recognition, activation, and stewardship.  Ensures minimal sponsorship category conflict, ambush, and sponsor concern.  Prepares sponsorship valuations that guide related corporate partnership fees and deliver a positive return on investment for corporate donors.
  8. Plans and manages special corporate donor events, as well as actively participates in the achievement of the Development division’s overall event strategies and annual plan.  Accompanies donors on business travel opportunities, as necessary.  
  9. Creates  compelling written materials to support fund raising efforts; works closely with Marketing to create compelling visual materials to be utilized in securing corporate financial support.
  10. Ensures that critical sponsor information (e.g. sponsorship outlines, pledge agreements) is available and communicated to appropriate individuals.  Ensures that all donor information is maintained with respect to confidentiality.
  11. Assists annually with the preparation of the budgetary requirements and income projections for the following fiscal year as it relates to corporate fundraising; establishes and executes an annual work plan.
 
REQUIREMENTS: 
  1. Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum of five (5) years success in museum or nonprofit development/fundraising, sales and/or marketing, with an emphasis on working with key executives from major corporations.
  2. Two (2) years of demonstrated success in people and resource management.  A committed ability to work in a collegial manner with diverse individuals from across the institution. Demands appreciation and respect for confidentiality of highly personal and sensitive information.
  3. An articulate individual who can relate to people across all socioeconomic and demographic characteristics.
  4. Demonstrates a clear understanding and commitment to the formal fundraising field within nonprofits.
  5. Excellent problem solving skills and negotiation skills.
  6. Knowledge and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite as well as fund development software.
  7. Excellent communication skills including but not limited to oral/interpersonal communications and proposal writing with demonstrated ability in each area.
  8. A persistent self-motivator who can work with minimal oversight and achieve team goals on a consistent basis.
 
ADA REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Ability to read reports, assess and direct visual presentations, and view computer monitor.
  2. Ability to communicate by telephone and face-to-face with staff, donors, prospects and visitors.
  3. Must be able to engage in heavy keyboarding for document creation, data entry, and email correspondence.
  4. Ability to negotiate museum spaces and other corporate locations, travel locally and nationally, and to sit or stand for extended periods. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
