The Viaero Center in Kearney, Nebraska is the official home of the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League (USHL), the top junior hockey league sanctioned by USA Hockey.  Since opening its doors in 2000, the Viaero Center has been the home to the Storm as well as other professional sports teams, concerts, events, and conventions.  The Viaero Center is a mulit-purpose facility with a seating capacity of 5,000.

The Director of Facilities and Ice Management (DFIM) is responsible for delivering a high quality, well-maintained facility, focusing on ice quality, operations, safety, fiscal health, and customer satisfaction.  In addition, the DFIM is responsible for developing a highly trained and customer focused staff that will help build customer loyalty and repeat business. The DFIM must work closely with the management team for the Viaero Center, Tri-City Storm, and the United States Hockey League officials to accomplish these objectives.  It is essential to this position to be regularly available during standard business hours as well as night, weekend, and holiday hours to meet with staff, facility users, and vendors and be present for routine and special events, including Tri-City Storm hockey games.

Key roles and areas of responsibility will focus on operations/facilities management; staff management; programming, and customer service.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience in ice arenas or recreational facilities is preferred, however training will be provided for any candidate with the desire to learn and grow with the The Viaero Center and Tri-City Storm organization.
  • Self-starter with ability to analyze situations and develop solutions to problems with minimal supervision, strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to motivate and lead a team.
  • Ability to develop "out of the box" ideas for increasing facility usage, sales, and controlling costs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours.
  • Significant knowledge of making and maintaining ice, equipment operations, and maintenance.
  • Preferably with a minimum of 3-years of experience making and maintaining ice and using an ice resurfacer.
  • Responsible for building maintenance and maintaining ice. This would include, but it not limited to using an ice resurfacer and all other equipment necessary to maintain the highest quality sheet of ice.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Works closely with hockey and skating associations, assisting the General Manager with the ice usage schedule and making necessary arrangements for the personnel, equipment, and materials to be on hand.
  • Responsible for promoting and representing facility in a positive manner at all times.
  • Investigate, analyze, and resolve operational problems and complaints.
  • Conduct periodic staff meetings to discuss procedures, problems, and policy changes.
  • Develop operating procedures that conform to corporate standards, customized to the specific needs of the facility and consistent with the goals and objectives of the client and facility.
  • Proven leadership skills and staff supervision experience.
