Duties. Employee will act under the direction of the President & Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner, as well as oversee at least one direct report. Part of senior leadership that works directly with the USHL Board of Directors that sets and executes USHL strategy across all aspects of league business and operations.

The position will involve at least the following:

Rules & Regulations

● Complete knowledge of IIHF, USA Hockey and USHL rules, including participation in the dissemination and orientation of policies and procedures for team personnel, as well as continually update the USHL Rules and Regulations

● Oversight of all compliance documents and works with USA Hockey on both SafeSport adherence and implementation

● Serve as league office liaison to USA Hockey Referee-in-Chief, Team Presidents, General Managers, team coaching staffs, international federations, and professional leagues [1]
● Lead and coordinate all General Manager meetings (in person and virtual), including setting agenda and meeting management
● Lead or serve as the league liaison to various committees or subcommittees based on the directive of the President & Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner
● Serve as first responder for all General Managers and Head Coaches
● Craft memos and other written documents that serve league operations, as necessary

Rosters & Player Transactions

● Ownership over all roster and player transactions included in this section. Day to day operations are managed by the Director of Hockey Operations and Administration.

● Oversight of league rosters, affiliate lists, RinkNet Central Registry and compliance with stated rules and regulations

● Oversight and management of player transactions, including complete knowledge of all relevant rules and regulations, including USA Hockey and IIHF player transfer rules as necessary to advise teams and approve transactions

● Oversight and management of all roster processing and transactions, including internal league trades, international transfers and interleague transfers, and management of the USHL draft boards

● Ensure that league transaction reports are compiled and distributed on a timely and accurate basis

● Foster Ladder of Development through interleague partnerships (e.g., NAHL, NCAA, NHL, etc.).

● Manage and coordinate all aspects of the Phase 1, Phase 2 Drafts and tenders

Game Day Operations & Player Safety
● Oversee and manage league regulations regarding game day operations, including line-up charts, off- ice officials, in-game promotions, and anything that impacts the playing environment
● Member of the Player Safety Committee to support the committee chair (i.e., the Director of Player Safety) administer supplemental discipline. Oversee part-time video support staff for the committee.

● Monitor all league games and clip plays that require review for supplemental discipline
● Creating a league library of educational videos; write scripts, voiceover, and help produce educational videos pertaining to the league’s supplemental discipline process, on-ice discipline, and on-ice points of emphasis
● Field player safety related questions from GM’s and HC’s

Event Management
● Operational oversight and management for planning and execution of USHL events, including GM Meetings, Fall Classic, Frosty Cup, and American Cup. This includes partner/vendor engagement (e.g., NHL, Licensees, Bauer, on-ice testing, etc.) and outreach with USHL coaching and hockey operations staffs.

● Assist with Combines and other youth events

Business Operations
● Build and maintain strong relationships with league partners, such as the NHL, USAH, Bauer, and other licensees
● Lead the ongoing assessment and improvement of strategic partnerships and licensing program. Find ways to use these partnerships to improve league and team operations.
● Responsible for the management of partnerships, including necessary contract deliverables, leading partner initiatives, and dissemination of information to member clubs
● Lead contract negotiations with new or renewing partners
● Coordinate as necessary with the USHL Communications Director
● Generate new revenue by adding licensee’s or sponsorships
● Capability to create new revenue/initiatives that improve the league financially and strategically[2]
● Lead diversity and inclusion initiatives with NHL, USA Hockey and other groups

Qualifications and Requirements
● Knowledge and prior experience in the hockey industry
● Expertise with Microsoft Office tools ( Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
● Some experience with budget management, forecasting and financial analysis[3]
● Agile mindset with focus on creative solutions to optimize team and league operations
● Exceptional interpersonal skills and professional interactions
● Ability to exercise excellent judgment in a variety of situations
● High level of integrity, ensures confidentiality and controls access to sensitive information
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
● Can collaborate across all internal and external stakeholders
● Strong presentation skills
● Schedule flexibility-available game nights throughout season
● Travel will be necessary to see USHL teams in person
