Job Title: Game Night Production Camera Operator (Part-Time)

The Ideal Candidate:

The successful candidates will play a huge role in capturing the excitement and action of live Chicago Steel hockey games. They will work closely with our production team to ensure high-quality visual content is delivered to our in-arena and broadcast audience. They will be willing to actively communicate with fellow production staff members, venture out of their comfort zone and create unforgettable moments for fans by enhancing the excitement of a Chicago Steel game.

The Top Shelf:

This role is responsible for capturing exciting experiences for all fans at Chicago Steel home games. We are seeking individuals who have knowledge of the game of hockey and experience operating cameras. We are looking for someone who is a team-player, works well with other employees, and can handle a fast-paced environment, with the flexibility to capture gameplay, live fan shots, and fan engagement elements during the game.

How You’ll Contribute:

Responsible for operating one of three cameras used for our FloHockey broadcast and video board for pre-game and in-game coverage including crowd cameras and in-game contests
Work closely with the production team, including Technical Director and Manager, Fan Experience, to capture shots as per the game script and production plan
Focus on capturing close-ups of players, coaches, and other key figures during the game
Capture footage for in-game features, promotions, and entertainment elements as directed by the production team

Player Stats and Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age or older
The ability to attend a vast majority of Steel home games during the 2024-2025 season. This will include nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced environment
Proficient in the shoulder operation of a professional camera, which requires the ability to frame and steady the camera properly as well as handle the weight of the camera effectively
Ability to be on feet for 3+ hours at a time
A good understanding of hockey and the ability to anticipate key moments during a game
Effective communication with the production team, directors, and other camera operators

The Team:

The Chicago Steel, members of the United States Hockey League (USHL), are celebrating their 25th season and are one of the most decorated junior hockey teams in the world in recent years.

Since 2015, the Steel are the winningest franchise in the USHL and during that time, the Steel have won two Clark Cup Championships (2017 and 2021), two Anderson Cup Championships (regular season titles), and three conference championships. Since the inaugural 2000-2001 season, 360 Chicago Steel players have played Division I hockey, and 59 Steel alumni have been selected in the NHL draft, including seven first-round selections.
