Vinik Sports Group is looking for a Vice President of Finance and Accounting to join the corporate office in Tampa, FL; reporting directly to the CFO.  The VP of Finance and Accounting will serve as a key member of the corporate financial leadership team and is a key financial interface between all executive leaders.  The ability to act as a sound business partner will make this position an invaluable asset to the organization.  Successful candidates would bring diverse experience with specialized knowledge related to sports and live events.

The VP of Finance and Accounting is a senior leadership level position that is responsible for visioning, strategizing, and leading all activities in the Finance and Accounting departments.  This leader will be responsible for course setting, accuracy, and interpretation of the financial status of Vinik Sports Group.  Driving the entire life cycle of financial planning, the VP of Finance and Accounting will direct the multi-year strategic planning which will lead into the annual budget.  They will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP while utilizing this information to manage the forecasting process.  All processes that support and rely on the financial planning cycle will be managed by this position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Hire and provide strategic leadership of full-time staff and manage their workflow

  • Responsible for ongoing coaching and development of staff and timely performance feedback

  • Responsible for timely performance feedback through the Quarterly Snapshot process

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategy, development, and execution of all finance functions, including financial planning, accounting, financial operations, treasury, owner reporting, and tax

  • Leveraging the human capital in the departments, define and implement culture aligned technology solutions for employee development and process improvement

  • Coordinate all financial reporting for all lines of business across all legal entities providing analysis and explanation of adherence or variance to financial plans

  • Support and enhance the departments by developing and implementing a strategic vision that builds standards and discipline while instilling a metrics-based culture throughout the organization

  • Manage all audits and regulatory filings

  • Oversee the annual budget process, accounting for variations in business reporting as defined by the organization

  • Properly communicate the financial directionality of the organization using weekly flash forecasts and quarterly detailed re-forecasts

  • Maintain all financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principals

  • Build strong relationships will all levels of the organization to fully understand the operating drivers of financial performance

  • Define and implement a chart of accounts restructuring

  • Implement a new financial accounting system with associated value-added modules

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements

  • Perform special projects, as needed


  • Major sports league experience required (NHL preferred with NBA/MLB/NFL/MLS experience considered)

  • CPA Certification preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business required (or equivalent experience); MBA preferred

  • 15+ years progressive finance and/or accounting experience

  • Financial statement preparation and analysis for public and private enterprises

  • Experience and success with process improvement with existing resources

  • Detailed management of chart of accounts improvement and rebuild

  • Experience with implementation of financial systems covering general ledger, accounts payable, procure to pay, budgeting, and rolling forecasts

  • Demonstrated strong strategic leadership skills

  • Ability to build strong and collaborative relationships with their team and business partners

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written); excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills; excellent organization skills

  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential matters and information

  • Strong attention to detail, excellent planning skills, and ability to meet deadlines

  • Ability to multi-task and learn quickly with a dedicated work ethic

  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles and analytical skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment and as part of a team, taking on tasks at all levels

  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule based on the changing priorities of the department, including evenings, weekends and holidays as required
