Job Summary:

The Staff Attorney will assist the Sr. Associate Counsel and SVP, Legal and Business Affairs with preparing, negotiating and managing a variety of contracts and legal documents for Vinik Sports Group (VSG) and its entities – Lightning Hockey, LP, Tampa Bay Arena, LLC, Lightning Foundation, Inc., Tampa Bay Entertainment Properties, LLC and TB Sports Retail.  This includes, but is not limited to corporate governance, legal operations, legal research, review and preparation of business contracts, corporate transactions and promotions, and assisting in managing litigation matters.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

·       Draft and manage sponsorship, suite, loge, premium seating, promotional and merchandising contracts. 
·       Draft rules and review materials for sweepstakes, contests and promotions and file registrations with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services as appropriate. 
·       Draft and revise vendor/service and non-disclosure agreements. 
·       Responsible for various matters related to intellectual property, including but not limited to policing and enforcing the VSG’s intellectual property rights. 
·       Serve as the point person in legal for all promotional and giveaway initiatives ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, statutes, rules, regulations, and governmental agency standards applicable to same. 
·       Support and manage marketing, branding and trademark business practices, including licensing and training of other departments.
·       Review and provide legal advice on all routine contracts and business arrangements for VSG. 
·    Review, in coordination with risk management personnel, arena related personal injury and property litigation potential claims, claims, and filed lawsuits; assist with all litigation matters.
·    Perform legal research; draft letters, memos and other communications.
·    Oversee corporate record keeping and accurate document tracking via maintenance of databases and filing systems for all contracts, policies, and legal documentation.
·       Collaborate with and advise other departments within VSG to minimize risk and facilitate compliance including assisting with investigation and resolution. 
·       Perform other duties as assigned by the Sr. Associate Counsel and/or SVP, Business & Legal Affairs. 
 

Qualifications:

·       JD from an accredited law school.
·       Licensed to practice law in the state of Florida and in good standing.
·     Minimum of 3 to 5-years of relevant post-JD legal experience. In-house experience in the sports and entertainment industry preferred. 
·       Strong analytical, negotiation, and writing skills (contract drafting) with attention to detail required.
·       Ability to execute multiple, high-priority projects independently and on short timeframes.
·      Solution-oriented business acumen with the ability to balance legal risk with commercial needs of VSG. 
·       Strategic and innovative thinker who can bring value to colleagues and find creative but practical business friendly approach to problem solving.
·       Possess a high degree of emotional intelligence and be able to effectively interact at all levels within VSG.
·       Must be adaptable with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and manage and prioritize projects. 
·       Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an expert ability to present and communicate complex legal matters to non-attorneys.  
·     Ability to handle all situations with discretion, professionalism and confidentiality.
·    Results driven with the ability to work extended hours and/or weekends as required by deadlines and event scheduling.
