Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage entire payroll function with a variety of employee classifications (salaried, hourly, full-time, part-time, contracted, players in both NHL/AHL)
  • Process player payroll for two hockey teams (NHL Tampa Bay Lightning and AHL Syracuse Crunch)
  • Ensure payroll correctly reflect processing of new hires, changes in base pay, variable pay, commissions, bonuses, transfers, promotions, terminations and changes in exemption and deductions
  • Ensure time and attendance (Workday and ABI) is accurately entered, submitted and approved by managers in a timely manner meeting payroll deadlines
  • Review in detail the payroll preview to identify any errors before issuing payments
  • Partner with other departments to facilitate the accurate and timely processing of hourly employees including verifying the accuracy of overtime hours, paid time off and leaves of absence
  • Partner with other department to optimize Workday/ADP functionality and maximize opportunities for additional efficiencies through better automation and integrations
  • Coach, train managers on Workday reporting as necessary
  • Partner with Accounting to reconcile all payroll accounts timely and accurately
  • Respond to employee questions concerning their pay details and W-2’s, research and resolve discrepancies
  • Manage third-party vendor ADP for state tax compliance and regulatory filings
  • Setup new states and local jurisdictions as needed
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending courses, seminars, workshops to remain up to date on the latest federal, state, and local employment tax laws
  • Establish networks both within the Workday community as well as other payroll professions in the sports and entertainment industry
  • Review and audit W-2’s and 1095C files for accuracy
  • Responsible for the worker’s comp audit
  • Assist with the annual audit, census, and 401k audit
  • Prepare monthly reporting of payroll costs and explain/analyze variances
  • Serve as People Ops on Duty at Lightning Home games and Concerts/Events (rotating schedule) which includes nights, weekends and holidays as scheduled
  • Utilize ABI/Workday analytics to identify trends and projections of workforce
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field preferred, HR/Payroll Certifications preferred
  • Five (5) plus years of payroll experience preferred
    • Multi-State payroll a plus
  • Workday, ADP, Smart Compliance and ABI (or equivalent systems) experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to do or to learn:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment and as part of ONE TEAM
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - (Outlook, Word and Power Point) required
  • Exceptional Excel skills preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings as needed
