Legal: Clerk/Paralegal
The National Hockey League seeks a legal assistant to assist with litigation, labor law, corporate and other legal matters, including health and safety programs.
This position will be responsible for:
  • Drafting memoranda and surveys as requested.
  • Attending meetings of health and safety committees, as requested, and prepare minutes.
  • Performing non-legal research using various research tools, including the internet.
  • Assisting with preparation for meetings, hearings, and other matters.
  • Assisting with document productions, transactions and/or closings as needed.
  • Tracking compliance on various initiatives. Communicate with club personnel as requested to follow-up.
  • Organizing and manage electronic and paper files.
  • Maintaining master calendar of outstanding tasks on health and safety related projects and other areas, as requested.
  • Updating attorney binders.
  • Performing other related duties as needed.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of related work experience.  They must have a paralegal certificate.  They will have excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational and planning skills.They will demonstrate effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.  They must have the ability to handle sensitive matter with discretion, maintain confidentiality, and to exercise sound judgment.  Should have the ability to work independently as well as effectively within a team setting.  The ability to assume progressive responsibilities within assigned work as experience is gained in the position.  Ability to complete projects in a timely, efficient and effective manner, and to handle multiple projects simultaneously necessary for success in this role.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate close attention to detail and high level of commitment to quality work product.  They should have strong research skills as well as knowledge of relevant computer software programs (e.g., outlook, excel, powerpoint), with the ability to navigate electronic databases and document repositories.  Flexibility to work nights and weekends when necessary and to travel for business when necessary.
