Facility Operations/Event Staff: Maintenance
The Building Maintenance Technician's primary focus will be in skilled carpentry and painting work including the preparation, patching, finishing, and maintaining of interior and exterior surfaces (e.g., wood, plaster, drywall, steel, concrete and brick) woodwork, tile work, and equipment following recognized procedures and techniques of the carpentry and painting trades. The Building Maintenance Technician also practices preventive maintenance of hand tools, power tools, painting tools and equipment, and complies with federal regulations governing environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal and the use of chemical substances and materials common to the painting trade.
 
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • May also be required to make minor repairs and perform preventative maintenance to HVAC, electrical and plumbing components throughout the building as well as any other assigned duties.  
  • Expected to follow established dress and behavioral codes.
  • Expected to attend meetings and training classes to keep up to date on building policies and procedures as required.
  • Expected to participate in the facilities on call rotation
  • Maintain inventory of all materials, equipment and tools related to job function.

Experience:
  • Preferred: 5+ years of painting, drywall repair and installation, carpentry, tile work experience. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Candidate must have knowledge of basic mathematical skills.
  • Candidate must have the ability to read and follow verbal and written instructions as well as adhere to building policies and event requirements. Must have knowledge of and ability to follow all safety procedures and guidelines. 
  • Must be able to lift objects up to 50 lbs and stand, bend and stoop for long periods of time and climb stairs to inspect and handle problems.
  • Candidate must have knowledge of basic mathematical skills.
  • Candidate must be willing to work in a fast paced, team environment
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to include different shifts revolving around event schedule as needed including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. 
  • Candidate must have ability to interact with fellow employees and general public in a professional manner.
  • Must have a valid NC driver’s license and acceptable driving record. 
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
