college preparatory boarding and day school located in Geneva, Ohio, offering a unique combination of rigorous
academics and elite athletic training for high school and post-graduate student-athletes.
Position Summary:
SPIRE Academy is seeking a qualified and passionate Head Throws Coach for the 2025–2026 academic year. The
successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the throws program, coaching high school and Post-grad student-
athletes in all throwing events, supporting the overall operations of the track & field program, and contributing to the
academic and athletic development of our students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement training plans for all throwing events: shot put, discus, hammer, and weight throw, javelin (not required)
- Provide individualized coaching, technical instruction, and performance feedback.
- Collaborate with the track & field coaching staff on practice planning, meet strategy, and athlete development.
- Support program operations including travel logistics, equipment preparation, and competition management.
- Assist with supervision and transportation of student-athletes for practices, competitions, and travel (valid driver’s license required).
- Ability to travel to attend home, away, national competitions
- Prepare and maintain throwing areas for training sessions and home competitions.
- Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes in collaboration with academic staff.
- Contribute to recruiting efforts and promote SPIRE to prospective athletes and families.
- Assist in the college placement process for throws athletes and maintain strong communication with college coaches.
- Participate in SPIRE Track & Field camps and clinics throughout the year.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and staff, upholding SPIRE’s standards of excellence and integrity.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Minimum of 3 years coaching experience (high school, club, collegiate, or professional level).
- Proven ability to coach all throwing events (javelin not required).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- High level of professionalism, reliability, and organizational skills.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the field.
- Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
