Position Overview
The San Diego Aviators is one of the six World TeamTennis franchises.  World TeamTennis (WTT) showcases the best in professional tennis with the innovative team format co-founded by Billie Jean King in the 1970s.  Recognized as the leader in professional team tennis competition, WTT features many of the world’s best players competing annually for the King Trophy, the League's championship trophy named after King.    
The 2018 Season runs July 15th to August 5th.  We are looking for a hard working, customer focused individual to sell season and individual tickets beginning in March 2018 through the end of the season.  This six-month role will prepare the selected individual for a career in event and sporting sales.
The Ticket Sales Intern will be responsible for selling season tickets, group packages and individual match tickets. Ticket sales will be primarily be generated via phone and email marketing.  Group sales could be done with face-to-face presentations and out-of-office appointments. Aviators management will provide day-to-day leadership and mentoring.  This entry-level position will be paid an hourly rate with commission potential.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Sale of new full season tickets, renewal of full season tickets, group tickets and individual match tickets for the San Diego Aviators home events.
  • Outbound phone calls to fans from prior seasons
  • Answer inbound calls for the Aviators, assisting with ticket questions and processing orders over the phone.
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Meet or exceed monthly sales goals
  • Assist in customer service efforts (mailing invoices, tickets, etc.)
  • Set and attend appointments where on-site meetings are required
  • Give venue tours, etc.
  • Match night duties as assigned (answer inbound sales calls, provide hospitality to VIP Tables, Season Ticket Holders and Sponsors, work ticket booth, etc.)
  • Attend weekly update meetings
  • Participate in sales driven events such as visiting local tennis clubs, working in booth/sales tent at such events as street fairs 
  • Other duties as assigned by management
Required Skills and Experience
To perform the job successfully, the candidate should have the following experience and skillset:

  • Degree or working towards a degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Sports Management, Event Management, Marketing or related field
  • Strong phone sales skills
  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Proficient in basic computer software programs (will be working with 2 ticketing systems)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to attend all Aviators home matches (often evening and weekend hours)
Office Requirements/Hours/Compensation
  • To work approximately 20 hours / week in the Aviators San Diego office.  Normal office hours are M-F from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • Competitive hourly rates plus a sales commission plan
