Connecticut Open is a women’s-only WTA tournament held at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale featuring five different competitions, including WTA qualifying, WTA singles, WTA doubles and PowerShares Men’s Legends. As a not-for-profit 501c3 charitable organization, its mission is to leverage the excitement of world-class women’s tennis to benefit the community and maximize support for women’s, youth and other causes in Connecticut. Owned by the State of Connecticut, the tournament generates $10+ million in regional economic impact. The Connecticut Open is prominently featured domestically through 40+ hours of combined coverage on ESPN2 and ESPN3.  The event is also broadcast internationally to 160 countries and delivers more than 15 million viewers worldwide.


This three month internship offers the unique opportunity to become involved in every aspect of sponsorship activation and execution for a large-scale, international professional sporting event.  The internship is designed to provide support to the sponsorship department in an effort to ensure the best possible experience for sponsors and their guests at the Connecticut Open.  There are three (3) Sponsor Activation internship positions available.   

The internship will take place at the Connecticut Tennis Center located at 45 Yale Avenue in New Haven, CT.

·         Dates: Monday, June 4 – Sunday, August 26, 2018
·         Interns for the Connecticut Open will be required to work a minimum of 30 hours per week.  As the tournament nears, hours will increase, and evenings and weekends will be required prior to and during the tournament.
·         Candidates must be able to work the entire duration of the tournament.

·         Student must be pro-active and hard-working, detail-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.  Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment with multiple overlapping deadlines and priorities. 
·         Student must demonstrate a high level of professionalism.
·         Strong organizational skills and computer experience with MS Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, and Word.
·         Tennis background is a plus, but not required.
·         Open to undergraduate and graduate level students enrolled at an accredited college or university.
·         Student must receive academic credit to be eligible and will be required to submit documentation from the college or university.
·         No financial compensation is available.  Housing and transportation are the responsibility of the student.

Assist the Corporate Partnerships and Sponsor Services Departments with the fulfillment and execution of all sponsor benefits.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1.       Pre-Tournament Activation
a.       Maintain database of sponsorship assets availability and contractual obligations
b.       Inventory and assist in the production of signage
c.        Process credential requests
d.       Assist with pre-tournament special events (Media Day, Volunteer Orientation, Family Classic, etc.)
e.       Fulfill sponsor ticket and parking needs
f.         Request and upload sponsor commercials and graphics for Video Scoreboards
g.       Communicate with sponsors regarding their assets and activations
h.       Work with Ticket and Marketing departments to promote tournament at various events. 
i.         Other requests as needed
2.       Tournament Week Activation
a.       Documenting sponsor assets for compliance
b.       Inventory compliance photos at the end of each day
c.        Maintain a detailed schedule of daily sponsor activations 
d.       Execute special events and sponsor activations (i.e. tennis clinics, gate giveaways, and on-court promotions)
e.       Maintenance of sponsor display booths
f.         Coordinate with Sponsor Operations staff on sponsor needs
  1. Prepare post tournament report and intern manual
h.       Serve as an additional point of contact for sponsors
i.         Other requests as needed
3.       Daily
a.       Assemble items for sponsor mailings
b.       Prepare sponsorship proposals and support the sponsorship sales team as needed
c.        Provide other tournament staff with support as needed
