Current Lagardère Golf clients include PGA TOUR stars Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, Davis Love III, Jon Rahm and Brandt Snedeker. The Lagardère Sports Golf Event Management Division is based in Beaverton, Oregon and is led by industry veteran Jeff Sanders. As the leader in golf event management Jeff Sanders and his team have produced over 275 PGA TOUR, Tour, Celebrity and Charity tournaments over the past 30 years. Current PGA TOUR events include the Safeway Open and CareerBuilder Challenge as well as the Albertsons Boise Open and WinCo Foods Portland Open on the Tour. Charity is the primary focus for every event and over $250 Million has been raised by the Golf Event Management team to date.

The Safeway Open is a PGA TOUR Golf Tournament located in Napa, California. The event was first operated by Lagardère Sports in 2016 and has quickly become recognized for its unique combination of Food, Wine, Music and Golf.  

Job Description: 

As the Tournament Operations Director, you will be accountable to the planning and execution of the on-site operations of the Safeway Open. You will oversee multi-million-dollar budgets and will be responsible for executing high-level on-site sponsor, spectator and player experiences while maintaining a fiscally responsible approach. This position will also manage tournament vendors, PGA TOUR Rules and executional staff, and host site agronomy / ground staff. To be successful in this position, you will need to have a flexible approach, have creativity in execution and process, manage changes well and work well as part of a large team. 

Role Ownership:

  • Accountable for developing and executing a strategic plan, timeline and site plans
  • Accountable for developing and managing multi-million-dollar tournament operations budgets
  • Accountable for managing all aspects of tournament site build-out
  • Accountable for developing and executing vendor timelines and execution
  • Accountable for identifying and managing local, state and national permitting
  • Accountable for developing and executing a tournament signage plan that fulfills tournament sponsor obligations
  • Accountable for recruiting, managing and retaining tournament operational teams
  • Accountable for developing and managing a tournament equipment plan both on-site and office
  • Accountable for managing and executing Golf Channel build-out, breakdown and on-site executional needs
  • Accountable for managing and executing the requests and needs of the PGA TOUR Rules Staff
  • Accountable for developing and managing relationships with host site agronomy team, local / state officials, law enforcement, fire and other necessary executional relationships

The Safeway Open Tournament Operations Director will report to the Tournament Director of the Safeway Open and Director of Tournament Operations

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree from a 4-year college or university
  • 4+ years of event management experience OR 3+ PGA TOUR Tournament Operations 
  • Strong passion for event management and dedication to perform and succeed at the highest level.
  • Ability to travel 40+ days a year and work independently from office 
  • Ability to manage 3-4 staff members
  • Extremely high communication skills
  • Fluent in all Microsoft Office applications and Access
  • Must highly organized with the ability to multitask 
  • Willing and capable of safely operating heavy machinery (forklift, etc.)
  • Computer Aided Design Software experience preferred
