Volunteers are the life blood of the PGA TOUR, and play a critical role in ensuring every facet of tournament operation run flawlessly. At the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, it takes over 1,000 volunteers serving on various committees to accomplish all the responsibilities necessary to orchestrate a world-class professional golf championship featuring the best players in the world. At the same time, volunteers play a vital role in helping the tournament, a registered non-profit organization, raise millions of dollars for charities in the local community.

There are many rewards for volunteering: Students can earn community service credit, employees can share camaraderie together and with other philanthropic-minded individuals, give back to the community, and enjoy a unique behind-the-scenes experience learning what it takes to put on a major sporting event.

We are particularly in need of volunteers to assist with ShotLink, a state-of-the-art system for collecting and distributing real-time scoring and statistical data that is used for digital and broadcast platforms worldwide. ShotLink volunteers are right where the action is, performing critical roles as a location-based scorer. ShotLink volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

Location-Based Operator Description:

A location based ShotLink volunteer will be operating either a fairway laser, fairway tablet or greenside tablet. The fairway laser operator is responsible for using a laser rangefinder or a tablet to track the landing position of all shots on and around the fairway. The tablet operator is responsible for using a handheld tablet device to plot the landing position of shots on and around the green. These important functions of the ShotLink scoring system enable real-time distance data and statistics to be immediately computed and distributed to scoreboards, TV broadcast, and Internet and mobile device applications.

Volunteers should have a basic knowledge of the game of golf, as well as a commitment to timeliness, accuracy and attention to detail. Laser operators are stationed in groups of two (2) on a fairway, while tablet operators are stationed in groups of two (2) around the green. Effective teamwork and communication are essential in these roles. Laser operators should be able to stand at their laser positions for the duration of their shifts in potentially varied weather conditions. Tablet operators are expected to walk around the green or the rough as necessary to gain accurate insight into the location of each shot without interrupting play.
