The Tucson Conquistadores are the host organization for the PGA TOUR Champions’ Cologuard Classic. Since their inception in 1962, the Conquistadores have contributed more than $35 million to youth athletic programs in Southern Arizona. Their mission is to serve the community by providing life-enhancing opportunities to local youth through amateur athletics. The Conquistadores have an active membership of up to 60 business and community professionals and a total membership of 209 who represent a cross-section of the Tucson community. In addition to their professional golf activities, the group has established the Tucson Conquistadores Foundation. Key beneficiaries of the Conquistadores' fund-raising efforts include: the Pima County Junior Soccer League; the Sporting Chance Center; The First Tee of Tucson; Tucson and Pima County Junior Golf Programs; the Field of Dreams/Challenger Little League sports complex; Boys and Girls Clubs in Tucson, Sierra Vista and Nogales; Pima County Special Olympics; Educational Enrichment Foundation; and the YMCA.
2019 marked the second year of the Cologuard Classic, named after Wisconsin-based Exact Sciences’ noninvasive at-home colon cancer screening test for average-risk individuals 50 years or older, and the fifth year the Conquistadores have partnered with the PGA TOUR Champions. This year’s tournament (February 27 – March 3) featured a 78-player field competing for a $1.7 million purse at Omni Tucson National Resort. Mark O’Meara won the tournament at 17-under par, collecting $255,000 and 255 Charles Schwab Cup points. The no-cut format included three days of competition (Friday-Sunday) with players participating in pro-am events on Wednesday and Thursday. Job Description (Dual Role)

as Executive Director, managing the day-to-day operation of Tucson Conquistadores, Inc. (“TCI”), in pursuit of the mission of the organization (a copy of which is attached), including hiring and supervision of staff, supporting and coordinating the business and activities of the membership, and reporting directly to the Board of Directors; and
as Tournament Director, working cooperatively with the Tournament Chairman in connection with the Conquistadores’ long tradition of hosting professional golf.

Objectives
- Demonstrate passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the organization and inspire and motivate the membership, staff, and others to achieve organizational goals. Represent TCI with integrity, provide clear communication and foster cooperation and cohesiveness with the PGA TOUR, title sponsor, tournament venue host, and other tournament sponsors and vendor partners. Maintain a positive message in the community regarding the Tucson Conquistadores’ mission and traditions and build the Conquistadores brand.
Duties & Responsibilities Operational
- Responsible for the general management and directing the day-to-day operations of TCI, including executive direction of strategy, compliance, quality assurance, and organizational efficiency
- Work cooperatively and in a coordinated manner with the Boards, officers, executive directors, and staff of the First Tee of Tucson and the Tucson Conquistadores Foundation.
- Assist the Board and officers in coordinating and supporting all committees, leadership meetings, and other governance matters, including, for example, Fund Request Committee, Membership Committee, Finance Committee, any ad hoc committees, and strategic planning initiatives, including agenda development, meeting notices, hosting, and participation
- Keep the Board, Tournament Chair, and other TCI leadership informed of significant issues affecting the mission and operations of TCI, and act as a resource for the Board, Tournament Chair, and other TCI leadership so that decisions are made on an informed basis
- Oversee and coordinate all marketing and social media activities of TCI, including development of an annual marketing plan for all tournament and non-tournament related activities, and coordinating with third-party providers of marketing services
- Translate strategic and long-term organizational goals into daily work plans with concrete objectives and metrics for measuring progress and success
Financial
- Maintain and support fundraising activities of the organization including, for example, hosting professional golf, campaigns for donations to the Conquistadores Foundation, and annual car raffle, and assist the Board and membership in identifying and evaluating new fundraising opportunities
- Maintain relationships with existing funding sources and pursue new funding opportunities, including preparing grant requests
- Responsible for overall fiscal management of TCI, including preparing for Board review and approval annual budgets that ensure the fiscal integrity of the organization; managing cash flow consistent with the Board-approved budget; and in cooperation with the Treasurer and Finance Committee, and with support from the part-time CFO, maintaining complete and accurate monthly financial statements for Board review and approval
Tournament Hosting
- Cooperate with the Tournament Chair in hosting annual professional golf tournament and any other Special Projects undertaken by TCI
- Work with staff, Tournament Chairman, PGA TOUR, Title Sponsor and other sponsors, tournament venue host, vendors, and all other tournament support organizations to ensure successful tournaments
- Defer to Tournament Chairman with respect to all aspects of tournament operations and sales, but in Tournament Chair’s absence, or at the Tournament Chair’s request, make tournament operations and sales decisions on behalf of the Tournament Chair and membership
- Serve as single point of contact for communications between TCI and PGA TOUR, Title Sponsor and other key tournament-related organizations, in close coordination with the Tournament Chairman, PGA TOUR Liaison, and Title Sponsor Liaison
- Serve as primary point of contact for tournament-related communications between TCI and the media and general public, in close coordination with the Tournament Chairman, PGA TOUR Liaison, and Title Sponsor Liaison
- Work with Tournament Chairman to identify and fulfill the objectives of the PGA TOUR, title sponsor, and other sponsors, and assist the Tournament Chair and membership in meeting sales and attendance goals year after year
- Help meet annual tournament fundraising sales goals, in partnership with the Tournament Chairman and membership, to secure financial stability for the organization
- Work with the Tournament Chairman, PGA TOUR Liaison, and Title Sponsor Liaison to create and maintain a unified message
- Oversee all tournament-related external communication materials including, social media, website, newsletters and other marketing materials content
Membership Support
- Assist the Board and officers in coordinating and supporting all membership activities and events, including, for example, new member orientation; dinner meetings, Intercambio, and Closed
- Manage and track member activities such as payment of dues, member status, participation, sales and points
People Management
- Ensure appropriate staffing consistent with the mission of TCI and needs of the membership and the tournament and within the constraints of TCI’s financial and physical resources (currently two full-time and two part-time membership and tournament support staff; full-time marketing director; part-time CFO; and seasonal tournament support staff)
- Develop and maintain appropriate job descriptions for all staff; recruit, select, orient, and train any new hires; establish and use effective feedback processes, including annual written and verbal performance evaluations for all staff; and ensure staff are appropriately compensated
- Establish, maintain, and enforce employment and administrative polices and procedures for all aspects of day-to-day operations
- Model effective behavior and skills, create and maintain a spirit of teamwork and cooperation, and build morale among staff and volunteers
Community Relations
- Represent the organization as an ambassador and spokesperson in the community to increase awareness of TCI and its mission
- Engage with local media and attend community events as appropriate to advance and promote the mission of TCI
- Initiate, develop, and maintain strategic relationships with community organizations 3
- Develop and disseminate information about TCI’s mission, programs, and charitable activities
Asset Management
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of facilities, furniture, and equipment and that they are as necessary and appropriate for the needs of the organization, and dispose of obsolete equipment and supplies.
- Make recommendations to the Board for any acquisitions or expenditures that are necessary but outside the approved budget.
- Maintain accurate and secure office records and accounts. Comply with all federal, state, and local legislation.
Desirable Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or above
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
