About the XFL
The new XFL will reimagine football for the 21st century when it kicks off in early 2020. Delivering authentic, high-energy football for the whole family at an affordable price, the XFL will offer fast-paced games with fewer play stoppages and simpler rules. The league will launch with eight teams in markets across the country, 45-man active rosters and a 10-week regular season schedule with a postseason consisting of two semifinal playoff games and a championship game. The XFL is a single entity that owns the league and all teams, employing professionals at the Stamford, CT headquarters as well as in each of the markets that the teams call home (Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, St. Louis, Seattle, Tampa Bay, Washington, DC).

About the Position
XFL is seeking a Copywriter within its XFL Creative Services team. Based at the XFL’s Stamford, CT headquarters, the Creative Services team is responsible for the ideation and development of all marketing and promotional materials supporting the league and its eight teams. The role reports to XFL Creative Director.
Your core responsibility is to work closely with the Creative Director and Art Directors to conceptualize, craft and communicate the XFL brand voice for an extremely wide array of applications across all forms of media.

The ideal candidate will have a very thorough understanding of the game of football; be relentlessly creative; independently efficient and responsible; openly collaborative; and highly adaptable and versatile.

What you will do
  • Help both develop and cultivate a consistent XFL brand voice across multiple platforms.
  • Craft copy in accordance with brand and franchise voice guidelines.
  • Write copy for advertising campaigns, marketing materials, corporate communications, consumer products, programming initiatives and many more applications.
  • Generate conceptual ideas (visual and copy-based) for company initiatives and collaborate closely with the Creative Director and Art Directors to bring those ideas to life.
  • Conduct and participate in departmental brainstorm sessions.
  • Present ideas and completed work to the Creative Director and XFL Executive team.
  • Edit and proofread outgoing materials as needed.
  • Work with the social team on ideation and execution of editorial and marketing calendars.
  • Keep up-to-date on XFL league and team storylines and initiatives.

What you will bring
  • 4+ years of related copywriting experience creating short and long-form content for both consumer-facing and B2B audiences, preferably with/for an entertainment and/or sports company.
  • Deep knowledge and passion for the sport of football.
  • Exceptional thinker with the ability to generate concepts and copy for multiple applications across the media spectrum.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated time management proficiency with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Working knowledge of a broad range of media platforms including print, digital, TV and mobile.
  • Portfolio that clearly demonstrates writing and conceptual abilities.
  • Existing football knowledge and willingness to keep abreast of ongoing XFL initiatives.
  • Strong work ethic, detail-oriented, good sense of humor and an open mind to feedback.
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings or weekends as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing, Advertising, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field of study preferred.
