About the XFL
The new XFL will reimagine football for the 21st century when it kicks off in February 2020. Delivering authentic, high-energy football for the whole family at an affordable price, the XFL will offer fast-paced games with fewer play stoppages and simpler rules. The league will launch with eight teams in markets across the country, 45-man active rosters and a 10-week regular season schedule with a postseason consisting of two semifinal playoff games and a championship game. The XFL is a single entity that owns the league and all teams, employing professionals at the Stamford, CT headquarters as well as in each of the markets that the teams call home.

About the Position
The Tampa Bay Vipers are seeking a Communications Specialist responsible for supporting strategic communications planning for the Tampa Bay Vipers team brand. This person will contribute ideas to the overall organizational narrative, help facilitate interview requests and develop notes utilizing statistical information highlighting the game on the field and the team in the community.

The Communications Specialist will report to the Director of Communications & Media Relations, and will support efforts to research football information including game notes, statistics, milestones and records. He or she will support media relations at select practices, all Tampa Bay Vipers home games and team marketing and community events throughout the year.

What you will do
  • Coordinate media requests with players and coaches under the guidance of the Director of Communications & Media Relations.
  • Maintain weekly press clippings and assist with inventory and organization of Tampa Bay Vipers collateral needed to promote the team.
  • Work with the Director of Communications & Media Relations on maintaining player bios, franchise fact sheets and a weekly game release promoting key aspects of the matchups. 
  • Assist with gameday player relations and media relations operations including pregame and postgame press conferences, team interviews, credential set-up, press box set-up, in-game media servicing and postgame quotes.  
  • Be prepared to work remotely for away games to handle pregame and postgame football communications related requests. 
  • Help produce content, primarily in the form of written press releases, advisories, team publications and social media/digital content throughout the year. 
  • Create informational graphics to promote key football-related content and themes.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with key external parties such as media, influencers, VIPs and dignitaries. 
  • Collaborate with internal partners in Marketing, Content, Business Operations, Ticket Sales and Community Relations to provide access to players and coaches as needed. 
  • Help track Vipers and XFL media coverage and relevant chatter on social media.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you will bring
  • 2+ years experience working in a sports organization, communications department or college sports information office. 
  • Proficient in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • In-depth knowledge of football.
  • Strong organizational, writing and editing skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good research skills and ability to fact-check.
  • Ability to generate new and creative ideas, especially as it relates to statistics.
  • Superior verbal communications and phone presence.
  • Ability to multi-task projects and work under pressure.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit. 
  • Excellent verbal/written communications skills. 
  • Ability to use cautionary judgment when handling discretionary information. 
  • A self-starter, energetic and resilient, with the enthusiasm and determination to ensure that deliverables, timelines and objectives are achieved.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (early mornings, late evenings, weekends).
  • A team-first mentality.
  • BS/BA required.
