Job Description:
The Washington Redskins are seeking transitioning or recently transitioned service members to join the Community Relations/Charitable Foundation team and Sponsorship team as a fellow from September 9th through December 31st during the 2019 NFL Football season. The individual will have the opportunity to rotate between the two teams. 

Community Relations/Charitable Foundation:
As a member of the Community Relations/Charitable Foundation team, the individual will have the opportunity to learn about the responsibilities of a National Football League Community Relations Department and Charitable Foundation by working as a member of the team and assisting in its day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Aid in overall strategic planning and marketing for the Redskins Charitable Foundation 
  • Assist in the planning, coordination and promotion of multiple high-profile events
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of high-profile fundraising events
  • Assist in managing the Foundation’s 50/50 Raffle program for the 2019 season (a $500,000 fund) on game day
  • Manage all event silent auctions including strategy, marketing and promotion, and management of item procurement through relationship building with local businesses and organizations
  • Aid the Development team in designing new communication strategies including but not limited to the Foundation’s social media presence (Twitter and Instagram) and e-newsletter platform
  • Support the Development team in the execution of Foundation sponsorship contracts including print advertising, special events, hospitality and in-game promotion
  • Manage select event vendor relationships on behalf of the Foundation
  • Write articles for team publications 

Sponsorship:
As a member of the Sponsorship team, the individual will have the opportunity to learn about the responsibilities of a National Football League Sponsorship Department by assisting with sponsor asset implementation and strategy development.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain lists and client databases
  • Contribute to system development and departmental organization tactics
  • Assist in planning and execution of sponsor-related events
  • Assist in creating/monitoring social media campaigns to support sponsor-related initiatives
  • Aid in sponsorship activation at games and special events
  • Interact professionally with both clients and fans
  • Manage contracts and support sponsorship fulfillment
  • Assist in pitch preparation for the sales team as well as other research/strategic planning projects

Overall Requirements:
  • To be eligible for the position, service member would need to be on terminal leave or within 12 months post transition in order to participate; strong preference will be given to participants of the USO Pathfinder program
  • Flexible work schedule with the ability to work days, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Excellent communication, writing & interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented self-starter who works well with others
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite proficient)
  • Team player able to handle a variety of tasks 
  • Ability to handle physical requirements of job including setting up equipment for events and other light to medium lifting. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and walk long distances
  • Proven experience to appropriately work with and around confidential information is necessary
  • Previous experience or interest in strategic marketing and/or event planning preferred
  • Ability to interact with players, staff, donors, and the community in a professional manner
  • Ability to commute to Redskins Park located in Ashburn, VA
  • Ability to work games and special events at FedExField in Landover, MD 

FedEx is supporting the Washington Redskins and the USO in connection with this position, which is a part of the FedEx Football Fellowship initiative. FedEx, the USO, and the Washington Redskins intend to create promotions related to this position. Accordingly, the chosen candidate must be willing to contribute to storytelling content, including written and on-camera interviews, which will be used for promotional purposes by FedEx, the USO, or the Washington Redskins; it is possible FedEx, the USO, or the Washington Redskins may request participation in storytelling interviews after the position’s end date (up to one year following the conclusion of the fellowship), in which case the requesting party would make mutually acceptable arrangements to schedule and coordinate success interviews.
