Broadcast & AV Engineer – Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders are looking for a seasoned Broadcast & AV Engineer to join our Operations team as a full-time employee to maintain and support all aspects of FedExField (Landover, MD) and Inova Sports Performance Center’s (Ashburn, VA) electronic video presentation facilities (in-stadium video/audio control room), broadcast and content technologies, as well as live event support for non-football events held at FedExField.  This position will provide technical oversight of event coverage and act as liaison with broadcast networks for all home games and non-football events.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:
  • Knowledge of overall technical support to live events broadcast staff regarding operational and workflow aspects of the video and audio control room systems (routers, frame syncs, cameras, EVS, coms, etc.)
  • Knowledge of stadium’s Daktronics Video Displays
  • Knowledge of audio engineering and audio workflows for stadiums
  • Maintain and repair video and audio control room equipment, including graphic systems, audio equipment, Video equipment systems, routers, intercoms, and display systems.
  • Maintain and repair MATV system headend and end point displays
  • Coordinates all pre-event video and audio equipment checks/tests (video control room and all stadium audio systems) for operational readiness
  • Prepares and maintains various technical records and engineering logs pertaining to broadcast equipment performance and discrepancies.
  • Respond to systems and equipment outages, malfunctions, and related technical problems for Broadcast, Content, and Operations staff at Inova Sports Performance Center
  • Consult and communicate with other broadcasting/technology vendors on new technology rollouts
  • Ability to research and write RFP’s for new technology equipment and services related to in-venue or broadcasting technologies; provide support for the implementation of new                         technology rollouts
  • Support all technical aspects of new technology rollouts across departments
  • Install electronic systems/equipment and AV equipment as assigned, and provide technical support to operational users
  • Perform all technical work to engineering standards and practices
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Other duties may be assigned by management. 

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree (AA) in electronics, broadcasting, communications or related field preferred.
  • At least five (5) years of full-time experience in the technical operation, maintenance, and repair of broadcast equipment
  • Knowledge of the following equipment: Ross Video Switcher and Xpression, Sony cameras, EVS, Click Effects, RTS coms, Dante Controller, Audio Architect, Planar, Harris Routers and Frame Syncs, etc. 
  • Experience with fiber-based transport of audio/video signals for broadcast television support and communications
  • Knowledge of FCC and broadcast standards, rules, and regulations. 
  • Knowledge of signal flow, IP networking, RF signal
  • Knowledge in maintenance, usage, and design of technical broadcast equipment
  • Sets up and operates various AV equipment for stadium based events (portable PA systems, mult-boxes, HDMI video, etc.)
  • Proficient with Excel, Outlook and Word
  • Be able to follow repair & maintenance work with outside vendors, and be able to create Purchase Orders for all R&M “tickets”
  • Self-starter, able to work efficiently without direct supervision
  • Be able to work effectively with other departments receiving and communicating instructions via telephone or in person.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Live sports broadcast event experience in technical broadcast control rooms/trucks, video board maintenance and operation, and stadium audio speakers/systems

Essential Physical Functions:
  • Lifting and handling heavy video equipment required. 
  • Must be able to perform physical work which includes lifting and carrying equipment up to 75lbs.
  • Ability to climb portable and fixed ladders.
