JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/ Objective
The legal internship program with USA Football offers a law school student the unique opportunity to gain real experience working within the legal department for a sports entity. As the legal intern for football’s national governing body in the United States, you will be asked to perform a wide variety of tasks in support of the organization’s two-person legal team. The legal intern will be asked to keep up with the demands of a fast-paced work environment while being provided an insider’s perspective on all facets of the legal operations of the organization.  
     
 Essential Functions

  • Draft and review various legal agreements including licensing agreements, sponsorship agreements, facility agreements, etc.
  • Research and draft legal memoranda on various topics
  • Assist with investigation and enforcement of intellectual property rights
  • Support organization’s work with International Federation of American Football and its other members
  • Prepare policy documents that adopt best practices for events, programs, and general administration
·       Analyze legal and risk management issues
 
Required Skills/Abilities 
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and present analysis
  • Completion of a contract drafting course is preferred
  • Interest in sports law, non-profit law, health law, or related areas is a plus
 
Education and Experience: 
·       Must be currently enrolled in a J.D. program
·       Completion of at least two years of law school is preferred though exceptional candidates who have completed at least one year will be considered

None
 
Work Environment
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  
 
Physical Demands
Requires the ability to sit for more than four hours per day, reading, listening, stooping, bending, manual dexterity and ability to lift on occasion up to 100 pounds. 
 
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. This position requires standard work hours.

Notes:
·       Internship begins May 11, 2020 and ends August 7, 2020
·       Internship is full-time (40 hours/week)
·       Interns receive a parking allowance
·       Reports to Corporate Counsel 
·       Position will be located at USA Football’s headquarters based in Indianapolis, IN
·       Must secure housing and transportation in Indianapolis 
·       USA Football supports interns seeking academic credit
·       Interns must identify learning goals and work with supervisor to achieve goals 
·       Examine the organization and its industry/environment 
·       Analyze and interpret functions and responsibilities 
·       Observe professionals in various roles and participate with them where appropriate 
·       Apply academic learning to practical and professional work experiences 
·       Learn how to perform specific tasks
