Our History
Now in our 60th season, the Chargers have continually stretched the imagination and given fans the most exciting show in football. Behind the dramatic games, unforgettable highlights, beloved players, groundbreaking performances and one of the best uniforms in the NFL lies an uncompromising drive for success – one rooted in toughness, resilience and old-fashioned hard work. A charter member of the American Football League, the franchise was established in Los Angeles in 1960 and called the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum home during its first year of existence. From 1961 to 2016, the team played in San Diego. Advancing to five of the first six AFL Championship games ever played, the Chargers claimed the 1963 title and later joined the National Football League when the two leagues merged in 1970. Since the merger, the Chargers have gone on to appear in Super Bowl XXIX and have captured an additional 10 division titles. The Chargers were purchased by construction leader and real estate developer Alex G. Spanos in 1984 and have been under the guidance of Spanos’ eldest son Dean, the team’s current Chairman of the Board, since 1994.  Dean Spanos’ sons – A.G. Spanos, President of Business Operations, and John Spanos, President of Football Operations – oversee the day-to-day operations of the franchise. The Chargers returned to Los Angeles in 2017 and play all home games at Dignity Health Sports Park while the team’s new SoFi Stadium home, set to open in 2020, is constructed at Hollywood Park.

Our Approach to Sponsorship
In preparation for our 4th season in the Los Angeles market, we are building our sponsorship and integrated media business by creating new relationships with corporate partners and advertisers looking to connect with an extremely engaged group of consumer segments.  

We have developed a robust sponsorship activation platform including Corporate Partnership Assets (IP, Use of Marks, Content Development, etc.); Integrated Media Assets across Broadcast (Television and Radio); Digital (Chargers.com); Mobile (Chargers App); Social (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. . . ); and Experiential (Game Day, Non-Game Day, and Off-Season Events, In-Stadium and Out-of-Stadium).  We are creating content for these assets year-round to provide fans with inside access and a personal connection to our organization. 

We are also enhancing and differentiating our sponsorship and integrated media platform by building an extensive database that will allow our partner advertisers to reach a mass audience, as well as, target micro consumer segments.

Our Team
You will be part of the team that will transition us from our temporary home, and create our sponsorship and integrated media portfolio of partners for the next 5-10 years.

We support our Business Development professionals with a Business Solutions team on the front end of the sales process (campaign strategy and proposal development) and a Partnership Services team on the back end of the sales process (partnership activation, servicing, and recap / renewal).  We designed our go-to-market strategy in this manner, so our Business Development professionals can focus on what they do best:  Creating new relationships; uncovering the specific business needs of potential partners; determining the decision making process; executing a specific strategic sales process amongst a variety of buying influences; and closing deals.

In this role you will be responsible for generating revenue through the sale of marketing partnerships across all business lines. While this is a sales position without staff managerial responsibilities, we do expect collaboration within the sponsorship team and across business functions.  Compensation will consist of base salary, plus the opportunity to earn sales commission based on achieving measurable financial results. Additional responsibilities include:
*Prospecting for new potential sponsorship and advertising partners
*Pre-call research
*Phone or e-mail appointment setting to conduct a customer needs analysis
*Customized solution development
*Writing and creating proposals
*Presenting presentations
*Funnel / Pipeline management
*Closing business

 We prefer individuals with the following combination of skills and experience:
*Demonstrated Success in Sponsorship and / or Integrated Media (Broadcast, Digital, Mobile, Social or Experiential) Business Development Sales as follows: Sales Managers 3-5 years of experience; SR Sales Managers, 5-7 years of experience
*A passion for new business development through the development of direct client relationships and an entrepreneurial mindset
*Knowledge and sales experience in the Los Angeles / Southern California Media, Sports or Entertainment Market - or - quality sponsorship sales experience in another Major U.S. Market
*Proven success in prospecting, appointment setting, solution development, proposal writing, funnel management, and closing
*Understanding how to manage a complex sale with potentially several decision makers
