Position: Staff Writer/Personality - Full Time/Exempt

Reports to: Director, Editorial Content

The Arizona Cardinals Football Club is a professional football team within the National Football League (NFL). The Cardinals compete in the National Football Conference (NFC) West division and call State Farm Stadium in Glendale their home stadium.

Position Summary:

The Staff Writer/Personality works closely with the Director of Editorial Content and the entire content team to identify compelling stories articulated through articles and other digital content platforms. As a writer and multimedia personality, this position regularly researches topics, conducts interviews, and creates and copyedits relevant content for the organization. The position requires the ability to operate under pressure and meet strict deadlines while maintaining a strong work ethic and commitment to the team. The perfect candidate is energetic, creative, and possesses a keen eye for detail to deliver great quality content that represents the high standards of the Cardinals organization. The Staff Writer/Personality is a full-time benefited position within the Digital/Broadcast Department located at the Dignity Health Arizona Cardinals Training Facility in Tempe, AZ.

Primary Job Duties:

  • Perform as a beat reporter for the Cardinals’ team platforms with daily reporting and stories throughout the year, including all home games
  • Contribute as a team personality on video, podcast, radio, and social media
  • Assist with updating website and app content, such as blog posts, roster changes, depth charts, transactions, and player pages
  • Create content and stories that highlight the organization’s community initiatives
  • Assist in copywriting for all forms of content, including but not limited to video descriptions on the website and YouTube
  • Participate and contribute to department-wide ideation and creation of new content initiatives
  • May require travel to away games, as needed


  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the duties of the job listed above may be considered
  • Experience: Minimum three (3) years of writing/reporting experience preferred, including basic knowledge and experience presenting on camera and/or microphone
  • Expert knowledge of football
  • Skills in interviewing, reporting, and writing, with the ability to think (and speak) impromptu knowledge regarding the franchise, players, and coaches
  • Consistently showcase creativeness in planning and ideas
  • Ability to write under tight deadlines, sometimes in logistically tough situations (like a moving bus)
  • Must be able to handle extremely high-stress situations and timelines that occasionally involve rigorous work schedules and demands that require immediate turnaround
  • An understanding that key stories vary from day to day, covering a wide range of content from player features to a community visit at a children’s hospital
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to develop relationships with various positions and departments throughout the organization, including players and coaches
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Must be detail-oriented and highly self-motivated with a shared commitment to excellence.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
  • May view computer screens for long periods of time
  • Ability to work a non-traditional schedule that may require mandatory team events on weekends, off-site, and out-of-state when necessary
