Player Operations: Strength and Conditioning

Position Summary:
The Performance Analyst will be part of an integrated Performance Team, consisting of strength and conditioning, sport science, rehabilitation, performance therapy, and nutrition. The analyst’s main duties will be extracting, transforming, and analyzing data from multiple data streams – geospatial, kinetic, kinematic, medical, and qualitative – for the purposes of injury-risk profiling and performance optimization. The analyst will also work with our Football Research and Software groups, assisting with the development of analytic tools and dashboards to improve communication and decision making throughout the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Use machine learning and statistical models/methods to improve the team’s decision making to reduce injuries and improve performance
  • Develop and implement data analysis, data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality
  • Organize complex data sources related to player tracking and load optimization
  • Process, cleanse and verify integrity of data used for analysis
  • Clearly and concisely communicate the results of your work to Performance Team
  • Research new techniques and best practices within the industry
  • Provide user friendly access to reports from modeling that update automatically as new data becomes available (simple visualizations using Tableau, Shiny, d3.js, or other tools)
  • Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
  • Master's or PhD in a quantitative field: Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics preferred
  • Minimum 1-2 years of data analyst experience required
  • The ability to interpret and analyze statistics of large data sets
  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages and appropriate packages (Python preferred)
  • Must have experience with Tableau, Shiny, d3.js
  • Comfortable performing ETL (extract/transform/load) tasks, data wrangling, data cleansing and feature engineering
  • Experience modelling rare events and dealing with sparse or noisy data sets
  • Be able to explain the pros and cons of the chosen model as well as alternative, variable importance and goodness of fit criteria
  • Passion for sport and human performance is essential
