ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, BRAND PARTNERSHIPS & TRADEMARK MANAGEMENT

Senior Administrative Program Support

Purpose:

Under the general direction of the Director of Brand Partnerships and Trademark Management, the incumbent will assist in the generation of maximum value through the University’s trademark licensing program, corporate partnerships and strategic brand partnerships while strengthening and protecting the reputation and brand of the University.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct licensing and artwork approvals for the University licensing program. Set conditions on licensing renewals, as needed, and track the satisfaction of the conditions prior to the renewal term and communicate with licensees on status. Review licensee request submissions to determine if new licensees have met benchmarks set by the University. Track royalty payments and identify areas for improvement or possible marketing campaigns to boost sales. Serve as a liaison for licensees regarding University brand standards and requirements.
Assist in and / or independently lead specific components in the management of current University brand and strategic partnerships to guarantee the most positive impact on the University. Duties include conducting business reviews, tracking the financial aspects of the relationship to make sure the University is receiving all value and incentives under the agreements and reviewing current operations/process to identify additional areas of improvement, and coordinating the implementation of any necessary changes.
Work with various departments and stakeholders to identify potential third-party relationships and guide them through the process in consultation with University Business Services and/or the Office of the General Counsel, as needed.
Manage and monitor the use of marks by nearly 700 student organizations, in conjunction with Student Activities, as well as the use of marks by University departments, in conjunction with University Communications and Procurement, which requires the review of nearly 5,000 requests annually.
Supervise and direct academic interns and brand ambassadors. Determine project topics based on areas of study, set benchmarks and goals for the semester, approve hours, and provide a final assessment of work completed.
In collaboration with the Office of General Counsel and University Business Services, this position will be involved in the development, writing, or editing of contracts and partnership agreements, as well as the management of the University Trademark Portfolio.
Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in related field.
Five to six years of related experience. Two years of experience must be serving as an advanced/senior team member or working as a project lead. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the degree and years requirement.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Capacity to manage multiple projects at one time.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with licensing, branding and/or marketing in higher education
Demonstrated understanding of intellectual property rights and contracts
Experience working in collaborative team environments
Considerable critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities

This is a permanent, full-time position at the Storrs Campus.
