PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Lead Physical Therapist/Athletic Trainer will be responsible for the development of the overall sports medicine program for the WNBA Las Vegas Aces, including but not limited to: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs, and counseling for professional basketball players.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Coordinate and implement pre-season and post-season player physicals per WNBA standards.
- Provide physical therapy and athletic training to Las Vegas Aces players in-season and during off-season.
- Coordinate medical appointments for players as indicated in-season and during off-season.
- Daily medical update communication with Las Vegas Aces coaching staff and management team in-season and during off-season.
- Manage practice, training and arena facilities medical and training equipment inventory.
- Manage practice, training and arena facilities medical and training ordering and provide recommendations.
- Assist medical director in the development of the sports medical program budget.
- Record keeping and documentation including, but not limited to WNBA electronic medical records (EMR program).
- Manage player workman’s compensation claims completed and follow-up per guidelines.
- Provide player health and performance assessment recommendations for draft and trades with Las Vegas Aces management and coaching staff.
- Assist equipment manager with duties related to player health.
- Implement medical intern program in-season in coordination with assistant physical therapist/athletic trainer, equipment manager and performance coach.
- Schedule and coordinate medical intern staff for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions, including visiting team practices and shoot arounds.
- Travel with team to all away games.
- Professional development in off season to support Las Vegas Aces medical team.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and inventory control.
- Knowledge of athletic, mechanical, and electronic equipment, supplies, and/or uniform repair.
- Knowledge of purchasing procedures involving procurement and travel logistics.
- Organizing and coordinating skills.
- Ability to lead, train, and functionally supervise staff and/or student employees.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
