***This is full-time 7 month position (March- September)*** 

Description and Essential Duties  
The primary responsibility of the communications assistant is to:
  • Assist with research, writing and editing of game notes, press releases, nominations for best player week/month promotional materials and more 
  • Assist with writing and disseminating postgame notes to media, opposing team and Liberty executives
  • Build, execute and recap PR plans for on and off court initiatives 
  • Monitor and track media stories
  • Assist with proactively pitching stories to media about on and off court initiatives, including team, individual players and executives
  • Assist with organization’s media monitoring efforts 
  • Under the direction of the Director of Communications, respond to media inquiries in a timely manner
  • Additional duties as assigned 
Required Skills, Experience and Abilities  
To perform the job successfully, you will possess the following skills and abilities: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Sports Management, English or related field preferred 
  • Excellent communication skills including writing, editing and verbal; ability to present ideas clearly and concisely 
  • Knowledge of AP style 
  • Experience with sports writing, research, feature writing, editing and transcription
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign and Photoshop
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion when privy to sensitive information 
  • Ability to be flexible and reliable 
  • Ability to present self in professional manner and interact with all levels of the organization and stakeholders
  • Ability to work extended hours, including nights, weekends and holidays

Preferred Skills, Experience and Abilities
  • Video editing ability
  • Previous experience using WordPress
  • Previous experience at a PR agency
