Title: Basketball Analytics Fellow
Department: Analytics, Basketball Operations
Reports to: Director, Basketball Analytics
Position Summary: The Basketball Analytics Fellow will be a critical member of the Basketball Analytics team. Supporting the Basketball Analytics team, he or she will take on a variety of statistical and reporting responsibilities, including modeling, analytical team strategy, and streamlining existing or new processes. Note: this is a one-year fellowship, beginning summer 2018
Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities):· Assist Basketball Analytics team in providing data-oriented solutions to the appropriate stakeholders· Manipulate and leverage large data sets to enable statistical analyses of the data. Source, process, and understand new datasets that may aid in potential evaluation or prediction of teams or players· Create efficient, interpretable, automated tools to aid in communicating data results and visualizations
Education:· Current student or recent university graduate majoring in Statistics or a related field. Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Minimum Qualifications: · Expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint· Proficiency with a scripting language (e.g. Python) and statistical analysis tools (e.g. R)· Proficiency with basic statistical techniques (e.g. clustering, regression modeling, decision trees) and knowledge of associated performance characteristics· Experience with technologies and tools to clearly and aesthetically deliver insights (e.g. Tableau)· Experience with building mobile and web apps a plus· Familiarity with relational database architecture and technologies (e.g. SQL Server) a plus· Ability to communicate complex results, statistical or otherwise, to non-technical stakeholders
Other Qualifications:· Adaptable, eager to self-learn new technical skills · Willingness to perform any task asked of them, which at times may include code review, data reconciliation, and presentation formatting· Knowledge of and passion for NBA basketball
Location: El Segundo (office M‐F), and other occasional off‐site events
Travel: Less than 5% of the time
Hours: Full-time.Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays
