Job Title: Social Media Producer – South Bay Lakers (SBL) and Lakers Gaming
Department: Marketing 
Reports to: Associate Director, Social and Content

Departmental Goal: To drive fan affinity and grow the fanbase by creating daily, engaging team content and leveraging digital platforms, while also helping other departments reach fans and publish their content via digital platforms.


Position Summary: The Social Media Producer will create and execute the social and digital content across all Lakers properties, while being primarily responsible for SBL and Lakers Gaming. This position works closely with South Bay Lakers and Lakers Gaming departments including ticketing, game operations, facilities, media relations, and basketball operations to create digital content. Beyond SBL and Lakers Gaming, this position assists and supports other content initiatives across Lakers, Laker Girls, and Lakers Community. This position requires a wide variety of social and content creation skills, including video, motion, copywriting, and graphic design. A successful candidate is committed to creating quality content for all facets of the South Bay Lakers and Lakers Gaming, while seeking innovative ways to support the broader marketing team.

  • Planning, creation, and execution of content
  • Drive ticket sales for SBL


Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities):
  • Design and implement overall content plan and strategy for SBL and Lakers Gaming digital platforms 
  • Work with the Associate Director, Social and Content, as well as the Social Media Manager, LAL, to develop long-term strategy for SBL and Lakers Gaming digital media development and presence, including standards and guidelines for content based on business goals and input from stakeholders
  • Stay on top of emerging social media trends and appropriately integrate new opportunities across all Lakers properties
  • Own the day-to-day content creation and management of the SBL and Lakers Gaming social media community across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and other emerging social platforms
  • Maximize any/all media opportunities and access to team assets, events, and activities to develop content 
  • Manage calendar of posts for all SBL and Lakers Gaming social accounts, balancing content and promotional posts
  • Conceptualize content, and work closely with the creative team in planning, shooting, and editing of creative assets for all digital platforms, on-demand and streaming
  • Support social and content team with photography for SBL, Lakers Gaming, and other Lakers entities as needed
  • Work with the creative team to ensure a consistent look and feel across all SBL and Lakers Gaming digital properties by promoting uniform fonts, formatting, icons, images and layout, and templates
  • Assist in content creation for SBL and Lakers Gaming digital and mobile properties and updates using various CMS, free­ coding HTML and CSS 
  • Write creative, engaging copy appropriate for fast-moving social media, formatted micro-content
  • Analyze and measure the effectiveness of social media content 
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments to assist with their needs
  • Assist in working with NBA's Interactive Services team on site troubleshooting, maintenance and/or enhancements
  • Conduct quality assurance testing for content and features 
  • Take and post real-time photos at events, as necessary  
  • Assist with Lakers, Lakers Girls, Lakers Community, and other Lakers owned social media properties and other special projects, as needed 

**Responsibilities subject to change based on organizational needs and direction from management.

Education (Required/ Preferred): Bachelor’s degree (required)

Previous experience: 
  • A minimum of one (2) year developing a multi-faceted social and content strategy
  • A portfolio of social media content that demonstrates follower engagement, creativity, excellent copy skills, and brand integrity
  • Past experience with sports photography (preferred)
  • Past experience working live events (preferred)
  • Past experience working in a fast-pasted environment (preferred)

Technology Capabilities:
  • Expert knowledge of all social media platforms
  • A solid creative foundation with an emphasis on photography and graphic design
  • Video capture and motion graphics are a plus
  • Adobe Creative Suite/Adobe Premiere/After Effects and video editing tools
  • Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint & Windows)
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS and website design/development
  • Drupal/Wordpress (or other content management systems to build amazing digital experiences)


Knowledge, skills, abilities:
  • A passion for basketball and professional sports, with an understanding of other sport cycles and operations
  • Ability to operate at the speed of social media and 24-hr news cycle
  • Detail oriented, organized, with the ability to prioritize 
  • Fast-paced decision making capabilities – always operating with immediacy and relevancy to give fans a real-time experience 
  • Demonstrated ability to present the utmost professionalism and highest ethical code
  • Excellent writing skills with an eye for grammar, spelling, and thoughtful story creation
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate well with (and in some cases manage) a team
  • Previous experience working with celebrities or professional sports players

Location: El Segundo (office M-F), plus other occasional off-site events
Travel: Up to 5% of the time (occasional road trips)
