Job Title: Senior Manager, Community Relations
Department: Community Relations (CR)
Reports to: Director, Community Relations
Manages: N/A (Directly manages Coordinator, Community Relations and Community Relations Interns) 

Departmental Goal: 
To serve as the socially-responsible, community-outreach arm of the LA Lakers, by selecting the best community partners and providing them with the tools to have a larger impact, while instilling the Lakers’ champion spirit in the LA community and developing lifelong fans.


Position Summary: The Senior Manager, Community Relations is responsible for implementing and managing the day to day operations and programming of the LA Lakers Community Relations department. 


Key metrics used to evaluate performance:
  • Number of participants in various community programs
  • Number of impressions made via social media assets
  • Number of donations made on behalf of the Lakers
  • Number of events implemented
  • Amount of money raised on behalf of the Lakers Youth Foundation
  • Adherence to department processes, procedures and values

Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities**): 
  • Plan, implement and innovate community programming and events for the Lakers, South Bay Lakers, Lakers Gaming and corporate partners
  • Manage and implement all Junior Laker events, activations and coaches training
  • Manage and implement Camp Lakers fundraiser
  • Manage and implement all Lakers Community Theme Nights
  • Oversee CR digital assets including website content and CR-specific social media (www.lakers.com/community  and @LakersCommunity)
  • Manage In-Arena activation for the CR department (including auctions, fan engagement, presentations, etc.)
    • Fan engagement events include High-Five Kids, Honorary Ball Kids
  • Manage all correspondence sent to and from the Lakers CR department via email, mail, phone calls, & faxs ensuring all of our fans are responded to.
  • Implement and organize both team signings for the Lakers organization for autographed memorabilia


**Responsibilities subject to change based on organizational needs and direction from management.


Education (Required/ Preferred): Bachelor’s Degree (required); (A degree in Non-profit management, Public Relations, Communications, Public Policy, Marketing, Sports Management, or other closely related field preferred.)


Previous experience: 
  • A minimum of seven (7) years nonprofit or event management experience
  • A minimum of three (3) years managing a team
  • A background of volunteerism 
  • Understanding of what makes effective community programs and caused-based marketing

Technology Capabilities: 
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Online donation management systems
  • Social media (content creation and analytics)

Knowledge, skills, abilities:
  • A passion for serving the Los Angeles community; 
  • Knowledge of the community landscape of Los Angeles
  • Ability to build and maintain authentic relationships with community partners, corporate sponsors, and Lakers staff
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Highly organized and detail oriented 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The ultimate team player who is willing to pitch in wherever needed to execute high-quality CR events
  • Familiarity working with professional athletes/celebrities (preferred)

Physical Demands: Ability to lift at least 25 lbs. and significant walking during community events
Location: El Segundo (offices M-F), downtown Los Angeles (Staples Center for all Laker home games), and other occasional off-site events
Travel: Up to 10% of the time
