Position Overview:
The Chicago Bulls are seeking a highly motivated, organized and dedicated person to fill the position of Manager of Event Production. This role will primarily be responsible for leading programming and production for all Bulls games. The Manager effectively directs an engaging fan experience that is entertaining, aligns with the Bulls brand strategy, and uses the energy of the game situation to ultimately create home-court advantage for our basketball team. 

The person in this role will collaborate and build relationships across company departments (i.e. Scoreboard, Digital, BullsTV, Corporate Partnerships, Marketing, Ticketing and Analytics) to create legendary experiences and original content for Bulls fans in-arena, and digitally around the world, that is in line with the Bulls brand, sponsor objectives and fan data and analytics. They will also support the company’s strategic direction while helping to deliver differentiated experiences and content to customers.

A key focus of the Manager will be to articulate a clear direction for the team you lead and collaborate within the Entertainment and Events Department to lead all Bulls game programming and serve as the “Game Director” for all games. In addition, you will:

  • Run pre-production efforts as related to game presentation, including: developing programming calendars, brainstorming and idea generation, game content scripting, game-day production meetings and supervise the production of all graphics for LED signage on in-arena scoreboard and other digital arena displays.
  • Lead the logistical planning and final execution of sponsor activations in the arena.
  • Oversee the video production process with UC Scoreboard Operations and in conjunction with BullsTV and associate vendors to meet our programming calendar and present our players in an entertaining and relatable way at every game.
  • Handle close partnership with United Center (UC) Scoreboard Operations, Digital Department and BullsTV in the planning of Media and Marketing Days to ensure maximized video content for the season, with the intention to dual-purpose content on digital and broadcast channels, while also utilizing their unique content to maximize opportunities in-game.
  • Lead all aspects of production staff and vendors for event production (video board and LED, music and audio, arena lighting, public address announcer, game hosts, special effects vendors, etc.) and provide training/feedback for improvement and maximum performance at games, etc.
  • Research and stay up-to-date on new technologies that can improve the game night experience.
  • Support Entertainment Manager by developing ways we can make the United Center concourses and Atrium more “Instagrammable,” reflective of fan feedback, and streamlined with the in-bowl experience.
  • Support marketing and brand promotions (team and building events, merchandise and food & beverage businesses) by planning video shoots, scripting in an entertaining way and securing in-game inventory.
  • Collaborate with Business Strategy & Analytics and the Account Services Team to apply fan feedback and data from fan surveys, focus groups, Season Ticket Holder interviews, etc. to continuously improve the fan experience
  • Partner with Sr. Director of Events and Entertainment and Manager of Entertainment to provide production support at team events, such as: sponsor functions, viewing parties and Chicago Bulls Charities events, etc. 
  • Partner with the National Basketball Association on broadcast timings, league guidelines and initiatives (e.g. All-Star Weekend 2020 in Chicago, Game Presentation Workshop, etc.)
  • Manage the Coordinators of Event Production, providing adequate training and feedback for growth to ultimately develop them as back-up game directors.
  • Support Windy City Bulls by continuously training and developing the skill set of the Event Production Coordinator in order to direct games and produce unique content with the goal of scripting an entertaining and engaging show for 24 home games.
  • Maintain the highest level of integrity when representing the Chicago Bulls, United Center and team partners.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Key Experience / Achievements:
  • At least three years of experience working in game presentation or live event production and at least one year of experience as Game Director with a major sports team
  • Experience leading production teams, from concept generation to development and outstanding execution
  • Well-versed in a wide array of musical knowledge
  • Strong network of entertainment industry contacts
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, Business Administration or related field

Management Skills: 
  • Creative and innovative thinker who can build actionable plans
  • Ability to lead, motivate and provide constructive feedback to team members for constant improvement
  • At least two years of experience as a people manager
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and has outstanding follow through
  • Strong interpersonal skills, handling multiple tasks in a year-round environment
  • Flexibility in adapting to changing priorities and circumstances without difficulty

Technical / Functional Proficiencies: 
  • Excellent writing skills with experience creating game and event scripts
  • Strong communication techniques are a necessity for game direction and interacting with different types of people
  • Ability to act on industry and pop culture trends
  • Strong understanding of video production and editing
  • Knowledge of theatrical lighting, music and live production techniques
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with a focus on Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and the ability to learn and master new software programs
  • Ability to travel when required
