This position, reporting to the Director, Revenue Strategy & Analytics, is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the technical infrastructure on which the Nationals’ business analytical layer is developed. The Manager, Business Intelligence will partner with data providers, Major League Baseball, and the business analytics group to maintain data infrastructure, support needs, implement solutions, and drive innovation in all business decision making processes. Key functions will include data modeling, API-based web services integrations, warehousing, and consumption.

The Manager, Business Intelligence is also responsible for creating business intelligence dashboards that will lead to data-driven, strategic insights and recommendations that drive the Nationals’ revenue. This position will require knowledge and ability to build data processes that generate insights to inform near-real-time decision-making. The ideal candidate will understand systems architecture and database design, and corresponding visualization tools, such as Tableau. Strong written and oral communications skills will be required in producing documents to be presented to senior Nationals executives.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of all the revenue and marketing departments within Business Operations to help design effective and highly-integrated solutions
  • Understand and document current database structures, historical design functions, format, definitions, limitations, and content of currently-used external and internal data feeds and establish future state requirements
  • Build database structures and views that enable near-real-time visualizations of ancillary revenue datasets
  • Leverage Tickets.com’s replicated database to build data marts supporting the Nationals analytical layer, including having a fundamental understanding of technical and functional data structures and data relationships especially within the Nationals ticketing and loyalty data environments
  • Develop other API-based and/or web services integrations across ticketing, loyalty, and other Nationals business data sources
  • Ensure processes and systems are in place to support the integrity, accuracy, consistency, and availability of all content via business intelligence dashboards
  • Collaborate with Major League Baseball on the joint data infrastructure initiative across both league-owned and club-owned assets
  • Partner with data providers, including Major League Baseball, to understand current and future data roadmaps, identify limitations and potential impacts to Nationals revenue growth, and develop and long-term data content plan in collaboration with Nationals Business leadership
  • Respond to, and resolve, data-related problems and issues in a timely and effective manner
  • Provide technical and strategic advice to business leadership regarding the creation and implementation of new data standards, products, and vendors
  • Develop and maintain insightful business intelligence dashboards deployed across all Nationals revenue and marketing departments
  • Work closely with the Director, Revenue Strategy & Analytics and Director, Ticket Strategy & Marketing Analytics in developing predictive models (e.g. attendance forecasting, marketing effectiveness, dynamic pricing)
  • Collaborate with Manager, Marketing Analytics to deliver relevant marketing analytics initiatives, including customer segmentations, econometric modeling, and regressions
  • Collaborate with the Information Technology Department
  • Extract key observations and insights from internal and external data sources
  • Uphold the Nationals' values of Excellence, Performance and Accountability
  • Other duties as assigned 

 

Requirements: Minimum Education and Experience Requirements 

 

  • Undergraduate degree, with major in engineering, computer science, information systems, or a quantitative field preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in a technical systems integration role, with demonstrated capabilities in data management best practices, long-term maintainability of code, and ability to effectively solve problems pertaining to data infrastructure and integrity
  • Proven track record of collecting and understanding complex requirements and delivering creative and effective solutions to the business
  • Experience building elegant data visualizations from relational databases 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required
  • Proficiency in R and/or similar statistical platform required
  • Proficiency in Tableau and/or similar data visualization tool required
  • Proficiency in Python-based integration development preferred
  • Proficiency in workflow solutions and risk management for job scheduling
  • Proficiency with database structures, schemas, and architectures preferred
  • Ability to extract key insights from large, unstructured datasets and synthesize into key recommendations for leadership
  • Knowledge of P&L structures and levers to optimize revenues and costs, especially in dynamic consumer markets
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to tailor key messages to the appropriate audience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability - a self-starter
  • Utmost standards of integrity in all business dealings
  • Position will require some weekend and/or evening work
