JOB SUMMARY

The Director, IT Applications & Operations performs three core functions for the organization. First, the Director, IT Applications & Operations plans, coordinates, and directs all daily operational activities of the IT staff responsible for monitoring and diagnosing mission-critical hardware and software issues, customer service, and project management. The second is to oversee all business applications and supervise/maintain the organization’s repository of software applications through best practices and the appropriate staffing and management of a technical team. Lastly, the Director, IT Applications & Operations will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the organization’s security solutions through management, establishing an enterprise security stance through policies, and security training programs.

The Director, IT Applications & Operations will plan, coordinate, direct, and design all operational activities of the IT department, as well as provide direction and support for IT solutions that enhance mission-critical business operations. The Director, IT Applications & Operations will work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.

Secondary tasks will include the management of appropriate security solutions, overseeing of security training programs, and maintaining updated security policies. The Director, IT Applications & Operations is expected to interface with peers in IT Infrastructure and Security as well as with the leaders of the other departments to both share the corporate security vision with those individuals and to solicit their involvement in achieving higher levels of enterprise security through information sharing and cooperation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Reports directly to the Vice President of Information Technology.
  • Manage IT department operational and strategic planning, including business requirements, project planning, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources.
  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of IT systems, including PCs, operating systems, and associated hardware.
  • Manage operations staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
  • Oversee operations-related projects and project portfolio.
  • Approve purchase of equipment and supplies in order to meet operational requirements of the business.
  • Practice asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment.
  • Assist in the provisioning of end-user services, including help desk and technical support services.
  • Analyze existing operations and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of IT systems.
  • Review performance of IT systems to determine operating costs, productivity levels, and upgrade requirements.
  • Work with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations.
  • Evaluate new applications, systems software, products, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the organization.
  • Research and make recommendations on software products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.
  • Direct research on potential technology solutions and implementations in support of new initiatives, opportunities, and procurement efforts.
  • Research and remain current with the latest technologies and solutions in support of procurement efforts.
  • Analyze documentation and technical specifications of any new application under deployment or consideration to determine its intended functionality.
  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent IT activities.
  • Oversee the deployment, integration and initial configuration of all new security solutions and of any enhancements to existing security solutions in accordance with standard best operating procedures.
  • Ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the data residing on or transmitted to/from/through enterprise workstations, servers and other systems and in databases and other data repositories.
  • Perform regular security awareness training programs for all employees and create/enforce security documents (policies, standards, baselines, guidelines and procedures) to ensure consistently high levels of compliance with the organizations security plan.
  • Supervise all investigations into problematic activity and provide on-going communication with senior management.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the IT security industry including awareness of new or revised security solutions, improved security processes and the development of new attacks and threat vectors.
  • Play a mentorship role to key IT personnel promoting their professional growth.
  • Engage in ongoing communications with the Systems division as well as other departments to ensure enterprise wide understanding of security goals, to solicit feedback and to foster cooperation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor or Associate degree in the field of Computer Science or Information Technology and/or 10+ years equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive understanding and technical knowledge of current network and PC operating systems, hardware, protocols, and standards.
  • Experience with systems design and development from business requirements analysis through to day-to-day management.
  • Strong technical knowledge of PC operating systems.
  • Extensive application support experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply IT in solving business problems.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable laws and regulations as they relate to IT.
  • Ability to conduct and direct research into IT issues and products.
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles.
  • Exceptional leadership and customer service skills.
  • Superior understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Overtime may be required in meet project deadlines.
  • On-call availability including some weekends, evenings, and holidays as assigned.
  • Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
  • Some travel may be required for the purpose of meeting with clients, stakeholders, or off-site personnel/management.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
