Assistant Groundskeeper
The Delmarva Shorebirds, Single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, are seeking an Assistant Groundskeeper for the upcoming 2022 season.  The qualified candidate will work closely with the Head Groundskeeper in planning and performing maintenance required to provide a safe, playable, and aesthetically pleasing minor league baseball field.  This is a full time seasonal position.  

Start date: February 1, 2022

Job Responsibilities: 
Assist in:
  • General game day maintenance
  • Clay repair mound, home plate, and bullpen areas
  • Infield skin / warning track preparation
  • Mowing 
  • Batting practice setup and breakdown 
  • Edging, painting of team logos, etc.
  • Training / communicating duties to game time field staff
  • Fertilizer applications
  • Pest management practices
  • Irrigation management and repair
  • Aeration, topdressing, and sod work
  • Keep weather/fertilizer/pesticide related records
  • Make daily visual field observations and field maintenance activity records
  • Take control of regular on-the-field projects and non-game day events
Experience and Education: 
It is preferred that applicants are currently enrolled or have recently completed a 2 or 4 year turf program, or have previous turf management experience.

Physical Requirements: 
Ability to lift 50lbs, ability to work long hours (including holidays and weekends), and cope with all types of weather conditions.

Hourly rate

Looking for an individual who pays attention to the finest detail to enhance the “look” of a professional facility and takes pride in the duties performed that provide a safe and playable field for its athletes.  Must have problem-solving skills and ability to communicate possible questions, recommendations, or concerns to supervisor.
