The Manager of Field Operations is responsible for maintaining the natural grass playing surface at Cheney Stadium, host to the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers. During the season this role entails managing a seasonal crew under the supervision of the Director of Field Operations. The position includes preparation of the field for games, adhering to a field maintenance regimen to ensure a safe and playable surface. Specific daily jobs include: patching, mowing, watering, painting, chalking, dragging, and leading setup and tear down of batting practice. The Manager of Field Operations is in charge of scheduling and supervising the seasonal grounds crew staff as well as assisting in hands on training alongside the Director of Field Operations. Monitoring weather is also an important role. This will ensure that the skinned infield is covered when rain is expected, and enable the Director of Field Ops to alert both teams, and umpires of any foreseeable weather issues. This position will also assist in field projects that include: aerating, topdressing, seeding, fertilizing, and maintenance or repair on the irrigation system. During special events that are hosted on the field at Cheney Stadium the Manager of Field Ops will assist in preparing the field for use, and setup and teardown of the venue. Cheney Stadium has the capability to convert to a full turf field for other sporting events. In the case that an outside game is scheduled, this position will be heavily involved in the following: removal and installation of the baseball game mound via a mound moving trailer, sod install and removal of the entire infield skinned surface, painting, and field set up.
During the offseason this position will assist the Director of Field Ops with all post and pre-season projects on the field, as well as planning, scheduling, and hiring for the upcoming season. Off the field, this position will assist the Stadium Operations department with projects such as: painting, power washing, cleaning, and event set up and tear down.
Full time, year round salary D.O.E. plus benefits

Skills and Qualifications:
- College graduate (or enrolled) of a 2 or 4 yr Turf Management degree or similar major
- Baseball field maintenance experience
- Ability to operate heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner
- Knowledge of turf grass management practices
- Ability to perform labor intensive tasks
- Staff management, and time management skills
- Basic equipment troubleshooting skills
- Able to lift 75 lbs
- Able to work long hours, some weekends, and some holidays
