Summary: 
  • The Head of Grounds and Facilities is responsible for overseeing maintenance, repairs, improvements and budgets related to field/turf/grounds around the ballpark as well as coordination of operations of the facility with the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities(applicable to Omaha Storm Chasers Baseball and Union Omaha Soccer): 
  • Provide training and support and manage assigned group of employees
  • Lead field transition between baseball and soccer, including but not limited to securing and arrangement for delivery of supplies and labor and scheduling transition work with relevant internal and external parties
  • Manage and schedule completion of routine maintenance and repairs of grounds (both inside and outside the ballpark) and facilities (including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, internet, painting, flooring, appliances, minor improvements)
  • Develop, direct and implement field fertility program, fungicide program and maintenance practices for aerating and topdressing
  • Ensure playing field is maintained by MLB and USL standards
  • Lead and direct field transition for special events as needed
  • Assist with tarp pulls as needed
  • Responsible for vehicle and equipment maintenance (gators, mowers, rollers, painters, graders)
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and all applicable regulations by all employees, including seasonal and game day employees
  • Manage grounds department budget
  • Manage snow removal in coordination with Director of Operations
  • Other duties as assigned

Game Day Responsibilities:
  • Ensure facility is clean and prepared for daily events
  • Ensure field maintains integrity throughout the duration of the event
  • Operational duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s Degree in Turf Management, Agronomy, Facility Management or related field preferred
  • Prior management and leadership experience preferred
  • At least two years of prior turf maintenance or grounds keeping experience preferred
  • Nebraska Pesticide Applicators license required
  • Ability to safely and properly tank mix fungicides/fertilizers and dispose of them in accordance with state, federal and OSHA regulations
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive for organizational business
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Operate and maintain all equipment in a safe manner and keep in excellent working condition
  • Good working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet and database programs
  • Ability and willingness to work varied and long hours including nights, weekends and holidays

Working Conditions:
This job is performed in a ballpark and therefore there is possible exposure to extreme weather conditions.  This individual will operate heavy machinery and power tools.  There is also exposure to chemicals on a regular basis.
