Communications and Public Relations Assistant (Seasonal)
The Role:
The 2017 Pacific Coast League Champion Memphis Redbirds, part of Ballpark Digest’s 2017 Organization of the Year, are seeking an enthusiastic, driven, and energetic individual to join the front office staff in 2018. The Communications and Public Relations Assistant is responsible for assisting the Director, Media and Public Relations with all publicity efforts involving the franchise, including, but not limited to, external marketing communications, community relations efforts, media outreach, social media execution, and baseball information such as press releases, game recaps, daily press box materials, and website content. This is a seasonal position that runs from March through the end of the 2018 Triple-A Baseball season in September. Selected candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule including nights, holidays and weekends throughout the spring and summer. This individual will also have the opportunity to assist with the Redbirds’ sister franchise, the newly-unveiled USL Memphis, beginning play in the United Soccer League at AutoZone Park in 2019.
Main Responsibilities:
·       Assist with the creation of external communications and content designed to promote the brand and the organization
·       Assist with baseball-related media responsibilities, such as facilitating interviews, writing recaps, sending press releases, creating game notes, updating player headshots, and posting to the website, among other items
·       Disseminate information via press releases, email marketing, and media outreach efforts, in line with the organization’s communications strategy
·       Assist with the organization’s social media efforts and help create compelling digital content that advances the brand
·       Assist in the press box on gamedays and run the MiLB scoring software as stringer
·       Assist with graphic design and creation of various marketing and ticket sales materials
·       Be on-call to help push/pull tarp and lend support to other ballpark initiatives as needed
·       Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times
·       Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education and Experience Required:
·       Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent
·       1+ years of experience in communications/public relations
·       Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
·       Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
·       Strong writing and editing skills
·       Strong knowledge of sports, specifically baseball
·       Strong organization and time management skills; ability to multitask
·       Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Education and Experience Preferred:
·       Experience working in a professional or collegiate athletics setting
