Position Summary
The Miami Marlins are seeking a dynamic and innovative teacher to advance our mission of becoming a fully bilingual organization. In this role, you will provide high-quality instruction and support in both language acquisition and life skills development. You will work closely with players and coaches, fostering engagement, collaboration, and growth, while helping to create a culture of learning that permeates the entire academy.
Responsibilities
Curriculum and Instruction
• Teach Spanish and English classes for both players and coaches.
• Design engaging lessons and high-quality educational materials and resources that align with curriculum goals.
• Conduct small group or one-on-one sessions to address individual learning needs.
• Develop and adapt language lessons for baseball-specific scenarios, ensuring relevance and application.
• Monitor and evaluate player progress in language acquisition and life skills, adjusting instruction as needed.
In-Session Support and Interpretation
• Facilitate effective cross-linguistic communication during baseball education sessions; translate or clarify content as needed
Mentorship and Player Support
• Serve as a mentor to players, providing guidance and support while upholding high standards and expectations.
• Foster a positive learning environment that encourages growth and accountability.
Cultural Awareness and Competence
• Educate coaches on cultural differences and effective communication strategies with Latin American players.
• Teach players about cultural norms and communication nuances to support their adaptation and success.
Required Skills and Preferred Qualifications
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish with strong verbal and written skills
• Understanding of cultural diversity within baseball and cross-cultural communication
• Demonstrated pedagogical skills in language instruction
• Strong ability to build rapport and provide and receive constructive feedback
• Adaptability and problem-solving skills within a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Knowledge of baseball and passion for player development in a multicultural setting
• Skilled using digital tools for language instruction and communication
• Bachelor’s degree in education or cross-cultural communication is preferred
• 3+ years of experience in language instruction and/or coaching baseball is preferred
